Reports the US is considering selling its advanced, state-of-the-art F-35 fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates recently raised concern in Israel after the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv published an article warning of the danger to Israel on Monday.

In response to these reports, however, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reassured that Israel’s “qualitative advantage is clear to all. It is reflected also in this weapons system, and this is how it will continue,” he said, referring to the F-35 stealth fighter dubbed in Israel “Adir,” meaning “mighty.” Under Netanyahu, Israel became the first country outside of the US to boast a fleet of F-35s in 2017.

The INSS article by research fellow Shimon Arad warned that “Israel’s aerial superiority over the next decade will to a large degree depend on the technological advantages that the F-35 fighter affords it. Consequently, Israel must retain its regional exclusivity of this platform and work to delay the release of fifth-generation fighters to other countries in the region for as long as possible.”

The rationale behind the American consideration is that providing the UAE, a key American ally in the Persian Gulf, with this capability would tip the regional power balance against Iran. This would also benefit the US economy, specifically to Lockheed Martin, the arms manufacturer that produces the jets.

Arad said that ending Israeli exclusivity over the F-35 would contradict US legislation from 2008 that solidified the American policy that Israel’s qualitative superiority must be protected. According to this legislation, Israel must have technologically superior American weapons systems in its service compared to Arab states. That being said, divisions in Washington the split requires a clear and unequivocal statement by Israel to persuade Israel’s supporters in the Trump administration and Congress to act against the possibility of selling the planes to the Arab countries.

“Israel’s air power is central to its image and deterrent ability,” Arad said, “it protects the country’s airspace, provides the first and multi-arena response to both immediate and more distant threats, enables retaliation and retribution missions for attacks on Israel and plays a central role in managing military operations on various fronts.

However, Israel’s aerial superiority has been eroded in recent years, due to a combination of two force buildup processes in Arab states — the improvement of their air defense systems and the massive acquisition of advanced fighter planes.”

Now papa Israel is dictating baby boy America's baby baby steps.America has no choice but to kneel.Their country is run by Israel.

UAE should Lobby hard for them.... Hardcore Lobbying for them....

Do you think UAE can get F-35?
For sure.. negotiations are going on with KSA too.. both will get it..
Did you know that KSA had a pending deal for 48 F-22 Raptors signed in the Bush era and refused by Obama!?
Now it is just F-35..

KSA did always get what it wanted from the US.. Usraeli pain screams and cries were heard since the AWACS in the 70s-80s.. the F-15s and any major system..
They cried about the F-22, but they did not get it either..

I hope you get them, but you will order them 2020+ will take close to 2030 to get them f-35.... long time.

I think in a shorter time.. Canada has scrapped its deal, and another European country too.. so those orders can be filled for the UAE and KSA.. it won't take more than 5 years before the order and first delivery.. both KSA and the UAE know how to negotiate thier deals with the US.. remember the THAAD system was to come in 2023, but one day after hearing of the S-400 deal with Russia, the US announced that it will be approved and deliveries will start in 2019..You can do things like that when you are buying cash..you just go to the competition:lol:.. You can be sure that the US don't want to lose KSA as a customer.. and with businessman Trump in power.. that just multiplies exponentially..Like for THAAD system where Tillerson was dragging his feet on approval and delivery dates.. it will happen with the F-35.. else rumours of a deal for a few SU-57 by the UAE or KSA might get things going.. but just the announcement of some SU-35s procurement..has pushed the US to start negotiations for the F-35..no need for more..

First of all, The Congress put a ban on foreign F-22 sales in 2006, So F-22 cannot be exported under American federal law.
Second of all, The Americans refused to sell F-22 to their the closest allies, But they agreed to sell it to KSA! Give me a break, I mean seriously, In what fantasy world are you living in?
KSA did always get what it wanted from the US
Yeah, Sure.

The Americans wanted to sell F-22 to KSA right after it entered the service in December 2005, But The Congress put a ban on it's sales in 2006 and the agreement was refused by Obama 5 years later!
