Report: Iranian police confiscate over 11 tons of narcotics in clashes with drug smugglers

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s state TV says the country’s border police have confiscated over 11 tons of narcotics after fierce clashes with drug traffickers in southeastern Iran, the biggest single consignment ever seized in Iran’s war against drugs.

It quoted provincial border police chief, Gen. Qolam Nabi Kouhkan, as saying Saturday that the various narcotics were seized from traffickers Friday night.

One of the drug traffickers was killed and several others injured in the armed clashes that took place on Iran’s border with Pakistan.

Kouhkan said the operation was helped by tips from locals, and that traffickers had carried the drugs on camels from Pakistan.

Iran lies on a major drug route between Afghanistan and Europe, as well as the Persian Gulf states, where the confiscation of large amounts of narcotics is common.

Then my friend, your neighboring country would have been a nuclear wasteland as maximum drugs come from that region in Asia. Unfortunately, they don't have any other cash crop and while opium cultivators get pittance, mafias and intelligence agencies having hold on the crop production earn and use those billions to further their global ambitions.

The recent fight between CIA-held crops and Taliban-run drug groups are simple examples. Both are wrong and yet people are being made to choose one over the other.

That is the truth, on top of the fact that these drugs are not cheap like a bag full of weed. The people buying these drugs are rich and well connected. As long as these people buy there will be a market and plenty of people ready to protect that market.

well if you want to know we confiscate around 800 ton each year about 84% of total opiate seizures by law enforcement agencies in the world ,Afghanistan under NATO and USA administration produce around 7000 ton a year .for better seeing the problem let only say the production in 2010 was 3600 ton and in 2011 it was 5800 ton and still increasing in 2012
