Report: Google Banning Windows over Security Concerns

. . . .
Yup no way to pay for atleast buying a windows :P

LOL................... only because I already paid for a "fake" copy !

I do have a question......................... I have homeprem. 64bit on me laptop ( HP), I can dual boot if I install Ubuntu? Also I only have 1 partition.................. any ideas for best way to dual booty????

as i said when im talking about Linux vs Windows im talking about Amateurs who are not very good with computers. How many amateurs can install Linux ? very few, so my point being that Windows offers whatever functions are needed for day to day computing quite well. I have used Linux and it wasnt anything mindblowing by any standards. I think its become more fashionable to criticize Windows for no reason all the time.

When exactly you installed Linux the last time and where were you stuck or do you think a new comer will get stuck.

Suppose you give one copy of ubuntu to one fresher and one copy of Windoze to another, why do you think the second guy can install smoothly over the first guy?

Linux may not have anything best with it but it lacks nothing compared to windows and one thing which is the best selling point is that. Its free !!!!

Errr Ununtu is free - legally free.

Open Source stuff will eventually kill them all.

Even though you guys may be inclined to say Windows is so popular because of its ease, in reality the reason is something else.

Ease is just familiarity.

Why C:\ and not /?

It just takes a little getting used to.

However MS wins because more people make software for their products than say for Linux.

THAT happens because MS makes kickass, easy to use software development tools. It is so easy to build software for windows any child can do it (and many times its children who are doing it).

Anyway, this advantage would be smoked off when machines start to get less and less kernel and platform dependent and start moving off onto the WEB for even its local services. Watch out for the Android OS in the future. Already for handheld devices, the Android has already far surpassed the Windows CE and is right up there with Apple and Research in Motion.

I predict a much different world market share by the time Windows 9 comes out :)

The trend is changing.. at enterprise level either Linux or Sun OS are preffered. MS lacks the compatibility issues when serving huge demands like in case of SQL Server Database admin. People preffer oracle... Though its not that easy but is well respected in corporate arena due to its secure functioning. Same is the case with C#.. MS litraly copied many of the functions of JAVA. Java is well respected as it has many of the open source frameworks like BARRACUDA,STRUTS etc for developing web based apps.
MS tools are easy but highly insecure and inconsistent.
However i do agree that future will obviously include more enhanced web technologies. the future OS will be built around the paradigm of Rmote,Parallel and Ubiquitous computing with every resource in a Data Warehouse or Server. Currently microsoft lags behind in all of them as it dosent have the required tools to sustain such a shift.

I think Ubuntu will ask to make partition from your existing Windows primary partition so yes it is possible to make dual boot! If you download latest ISO of Ubuntu it can start installation from Windows only like executing EXE and will ask for creating partition for root and home directories.

Google is becoming self aware.

Here is the questions............................
Once installed, how would you un-install it & making sure all references also get removed?

My laptop only has the image drive/CDrom. Can I install it with just the virtual drive? Is int the installation going to read files further after the initial installation?

Lastly, is ubuntu 64 bit as well or is that irrelevant? any known issues
with an existing win7 64 installation?

I am a computer expert , hence all these questions.

The way I told you, find the Ubuntu copy which can be installed from Windows directly, from what I remember I didn't even used Virtual drive. After the installation starts you don't need to worry about how it will take files since once partially installed it will automatically take care after reboot. and yes if you install this way you will see Uninstall Ubuntu in your Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. If you have more or equal to 4GB Ram go for 64 bit version.

No prob with Win 7 since both are separate.

.
yes Ubuntu will install the OS files on a nominated drive such as c:\ubuntu and will replace the boot loader so you can dual boot.
and removing it will be as simple as going to add/remove and uninstall.

have been reading this thread and i agree with Desi man Win7 is by far the best and much secure! Plus the versatility and ease of use that Windows platform offers is no where to be found with linux or Mac especially in corporate world! e.g. Exchange, sharepoint, office communicator etc. all these integrate easily and are a killer collaboration suite... much better productivity and ease of maintenance.

Windows has much bigger share in the market so statistically more chances of getting hacked too but if proper firewalls are in place and system is patched and hardened up its not that easy than!

The stupidity of your market is a bad strategy for MS to rely upon. Eventually we'll all wise up. MS in fact has its biggest advantage in Visual Studio. Just as powerful as any Java based IDE, but infinitely easier for any newbie to work on it.
