My original post on demonetization,

Very balanced post & true.
Any move as big as Demo and GST will have it's short comings.

For example, the most critical factor for Demo was the surprise factor. Any more preparation and anyone worth their salt would know what's coming round the corner. People complained about ATM's not being configured for 2000 rupee note. Duh, if you are configuring it, how will one keep it a secret. Same goes for many other arguments being made for a better planned Demo.
If you wanted an efficient Demo, what BJP did was close to the ideal form. Only one thing I would have done differently was to use the ink on people to make sure they did not bring in cash repeatedly, which happened in initial few days.

Would sincerely like to know what you think BJP could have been done better to make the process better.
The logistics of it was always a nightmare & hindsight always 20/20.

Still, if the tax base does not increase, I would think Demo was a failure. If it did and companies are exposed, it would mean it was a success.
Was there pain - Oh yeah, there was. Was it worth it? Let's wait for bit more before we demand Modi's head.

It would be completely other thing if one did not like Demo at all.

The brunt of demonetization was actually felt in cities. The govt transferred a huge chunk of money that was supposed to be for cities towards rural markets. We were asked to use digital platforms instead.

That's why we use the problems in cities as a yardstick and have wrongly assumed that it may have been worse in rural areas, when in fact it was the opposite.

Right after demonetization, rural employment picked up. In some states, unemployment was over 15% before demo and then reduced to 2% after demo.

In the fight against black money, demo has yielded a far better prize than what was initially expected. At first, it was assumed that people won't take the risk and will simply fail to deposit money for conversion. This would have only provided momentary gains. But people took the risk and now they got caught. Catching the real culprits who create black money is way better than them taking a temporary loss and going into hiding only for them to rear their ugly heads again in the future after Modi is gone.

So demo has cleaned up the economy for the future. By early next year, all bank accounts that are not linked to Aadhaar will be closed, so there will no longer be any escape for black money hoarders.
