With a simple majority in joint session now, IK can call for a referendum for Presidential System (provided tomorrow's vote of confidence is in his favour). Article 48(6) was amended in 18th Amendment by PPP to stop a PM just using only Parliament to call referendum and bypassing Senate. No clause of 2/3 majority for a call.

Hoping IK's legal team will use the next 6 months to call for one.

48President to act on advice, etc.
(1)In the exercise of his functions, the President shall act 63[on and] 63 in accordance with the advice of the Cabinet 64[or the Prime Minister] 64:
65[Provided that 66[after fifteen days] 66 the President may require the Cabinet or as the case may be, the Prime Minister to reconsider such advice, either generally or otherwise, and the President shall 67[, within ten days, ] 67 act in accordance with the advice tendered after such reconsideration.] 65
(2)Notwithstanding anything contained in clause (1), the President shall act in his discretion in respect of any matter in respect of which he is empowered by the Constitution to do so 68[and the validity of anything done by the President in his discretion shall not be called in question on any ground whatsoever] 68.
69[] 69
(4)The question whether any, and if so what, advice was tendered to the President by the Cabinet, the Prime Minister, a Minister or Minister of State shall not be inquired into in, or by, any court, tribunal or other authority.
70[
(5)Where the President dissolves the National Assembly, notwithstanding anything contained in clause (1), he shall-
(a)appoint a date, not later than ninety days from the date of the dissolution, for the holding of a general election to the Assembly; and
(b)appoint a care-taker Cabinet 71[in accordance with the provisions of Article 224 or, as the case may be, Article 224-A] 71.
] 70 73[
(6)If at any time the Prime Minister considers it necessary to hold a referendum on any matter of national importance, he may refer the matter to a joint sitting of the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) and if it is approved in a joint sitting, the Prime Minister may cause such matter to be referred to a referendum in the form of a question that is capable of being answered by either "Yes" or "No".
] 73
(7)An act of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) may lay down the procedure for the holding of a referendum and the compiling and consolidation of the result of a referendum.

Pakistan is confederation ...absolute authority in one person is dangerous..people tend to forget we are not nation based on one ethnicity .. ...we have seen what happened in ayub time when he laid the foundation to break pakistan by becoming president in his so called election against fatimah Jinnah ...what has ayub , musharaf and other dictator with authority like king had done to this country other then destroying social fabric ...

Presidential system will work best in Pakistan if we go back to the unitary government system with no province. It means that we have to abolish the federal system in order to take the full advantage of a presidential form of government.

this country is up shit creek anyway. needs a radical change. a presidential system with Imran Khan as president is that radical change.

Pakistan is a nation based on religion, that is the only thing that keeps it together, if we take the ethinic path and give it importance, like it is increasingly bieng given, unfortunately, the nation would break up swiftly. One nation, under Allah, lead by a single President voted for by 220 million people directly is the way to go, to hell with ethnicity, it is a cancer.

US has presidential system so Pakistan calling for referendum won't really be an issue as such by the world at large.

He didn't have numbers before but now he does. This should be on the cards and it should be done whilst opposition is out on the streets doing long march.

Yes we need one presidential system sismental senate or national assembly either one of them and pm system is also not need we vote directly the man to lead uams not some mp who do what his party says

other dictator with authority like king had done to this country other then destroying social fabric ...

Explain again how the autocrats went about 'destroying social fabric'.

Last time I checked GDP growth only spiked and stabilized under martial law.

First dictator or autocrat or king who ruled with immunity in pakistan was ayub who laid the foundation to break pakistan and held a scam elections to defeat fatimah Jinnah equally famous in west and east pakistan ...rest in history after that ...a dictator with zero role in Pakistan formation called sister of Jinnah a traitor ...rest in history ...

What if people voted someone corrupt again ? With full authority ? Or why would Sindhi , pashtoon or baloch accepted Punjabi always with full authority ...since anybody who gain majority there will become president or king ....as I said pakistan is confederation ...people from each region need to sense it share of power ...pakistan is nation of muslim unfortunately we are not a Islamic state ....our system is based on interest and laws by british ...

Spare the rod, spoil your child....

Muslims, by nature, are rebellious and hard to govern; hence, they’re the Muslims at the first place to say LA ILAHA!!! Therefore, the successful Muslim ruler has to be extremely just/honest/competent/brave etc., and ruthlessly tough on the traitors......
