Some disgree but I believe General Zia was the best leader in History of Bangladesh. I admire the man for reestablished our Islamic identiy and reintroduced to the world with new Image. He isn't with us no more but his legecy still alive today. Mordern Bangladesh based on his idology and direction. He had done more for Bangladesh in few years time than rest of the leaders combined.

May Allah reward him into Jannatul-Firdaus, Ameen

Tarique Rahman, son of late president Ziaur Rahman. The Senior Joint Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party [BNP] is now in the United Kingdom for treatment of the ailment believed to have caused to him because of the mis-treatment in the name of interrogation during the interim government of Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed for his alleged corruption involvement. While, Tarique Rahman left the country for UK, just before his departure, he left his political position of BNP because it is believed that he needs to spend a long time abroad for treatment.

President Zia, who is popularly known as Mr. Clean for his unquestionable integrity was a charismatic Bangladeshi war hero, politician and statesman. Ziaur Rahman was the President of Bangladesh from 1976 until he was assacinated in the year 1981.

Zia was extremely popular amongst people. After his death it was found that President Zia was truly adored by millions of Bangladeshi and by people and leaders in other corners of the world.

In his Janaza [funeral] hundreds of thousands of people gathered. It was the highest ever crowd gathered in a Janaza in the history of Bangladesh.

South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation [SAARC] was president Zia's brain child. During his short period of being the Head of State, through his activities it was proven that Zia did not believe in the politics of conflict with the neighboring countries rather he was for a very friendly relationship with them. Zia was a man who was absolutely free from corruption at least as far as financial corruption is concerned. He was a man with vision.

Just a small instance, when a wide aveue was constructed during President Zia’s time, many so-called politicians criticized Zia’s idea and termed it as CRAZY act. Because, there was no need for such huge road at that time when this avenue in front of the National Parliament House was made. But now, after almost 28 years, people realize if Zia could turn the whole city the same way he did to the avenue in front of the Parliament House, Dhaka would not face such nasty traffic congestion. It was also possible to construct similar roads/avenues in the whole city as then Dhaka was not what it is today. Now, land in Dhaka is as expensive as any top cities in the world. So, other than government’s grabbing the land by force, it would be simply impossible to expand roads.

But unfortunately president Zia got a very brief period to implement his ideas. May be he was too early for his time. May be he was needed NOW [?]

After President Zia’s death, his wife Madame Khaleda Zia was made the CHAIR of the political party that Zia created, Bangladesh Nationalist Party [BNP]. Madame Zia, for being the widow of Ziaur Rahman was respected highly by the members of BNP and people in general. But to be honest and frank, reflection of ‘DEMOCRACY’ was never there in the party. BNP high command, especially Madame Zia was/is running the party as per will and wish.

So, although we say that our country is democratic under political leadership, but it should rather be called POLITIC; not democratic. She was and [most probably still] is something like a goddess to the members of BNP; even to the so-called second level leadership. Madame Zia, infact, substituted wisdom with her arrogance, vanity and pride. OR could it be that to control wicked children, a mother needs to show her ‘red-eyes’ and arrogance [?] We cannot also expect Madame Zia to be a re-incarnation of President Zia. We could, if Zia was something like a POSITIVE DRACULA. But we can surely expect something from his son Tarique Rahman. Because he carries the blood of that HOLY MAN! Even when information started coming to the media that President Zia’s elder son Tarique Rahman was to play a very important role in BNP, initially people silently welcomed this young leader. Because, like his father, Tarique too is not a talketive person. Both the father and the son are very bad at LIP-SERVICE. Unlike ‘our’ politicians, both Rahman Senior and Junior do not seem to enjoy entertaining PUBLIC with SWEET SPEECHES.

As Ziaur Rahman was from [born in] the district of Bogra, Bangladesh, so, people of Bogra have special fascination for both Ziaur Rahman and his son Tarique Rahman. If Zia Jr contested in the election [Parliament] from Bogra, it was for certain that he would win with huge margin. But Tarique probably chose to work for people of Bogra not as their MP, but as their son. He, as the Sr Joint Secretary General of BNP, planned to improve the district from where his father comes and it is just stunning the amount of change that has taken place in Bogra during BNP’s period [2001-2006] But why this young, dynamic leader ended up with the SEAL of CORRUPT?

Many people say, he was surrounded by a bunch of sychophants, never did he have a true friend! And unfortunately, when he was running a separate office of BNP,some of those so-called friends used his image and earned both ****** money and fame. So, is it that Zia Jr is absolutely innocent and saint and others [his friends] are all criminals? Certainly not! Those ‘friends’ certainly did not cash their fathers’ or mothers’ name and made money and earned bad name; they sold Tarique’s. So, it was Tarique’s responsibility to check his ‘friends’ before they did maximum damage to the image; especially of his father.

Almost immediately after Zia’s death, another military man took over as the head of the state of Bangladesh, General Hussein Muhammad Ershad. He ruled the country as both Military man and as civilian president for almost 9 years. General Ershad had an extensive grip over the administration of the country. During his rule it was almost impossible to believe that he would be thrown out of power one day as long as he is alive and is active to work. That giant figure of yesterday has turned into almost a CLOWN. One woman, his second wife BIDISHA was enough to turn him from a gigantic figure of one day to a JOKER! So, one enjoying power should never forget that power is for a limited time. It is temporary.

Khaleda Zia along with her counterpart Sheikh Hasina, the chief of Bangladesh Awami-league initiated movement to topple the Military Dictator and restore democracy in the country. After a long struggle they were succesful. In the year 1990, there was an end of Ershad’s era. It isn’t that General Ershad wasn’t a good administrator or ruler, rather many of his ideas too, which were rejected then by the ‘politicians’ are now being newly adopted by them. For instance, the UPAZILA [sub-district] councils. Upazilas which were strongly opposed by the politicians of those days and demanded for the demolition, the same 'politicians' are now finding it a succesful concept for de-centralizing the administration.

Coming back to the issue of Tarique Rahman, on March 7, 2007, Tareq Rahman was arrested by law enforcing Joint Forces as a part of chain arrests of politicians. He was charged with extortion and corruptions. He initially denied the charges. But the government found or explored the legal ground against him after arresting other BNP political leaders. But we have seen recently that one of the most talked about ministers of BNP time, Power Minister Tuku rather has sued against the former general, Chief of Bangladesh Army, Moeen U Ahmed with a defamation suit of 15 million dollar. Not only the caretaker/interim government of Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed but opposition Awami-League [that time] claimed many a times that massive corruption had taken place in the Power Ministry during BNP in the year 2001-2006.

On September 3, 2008 the announcement of Tarique Rahman’s release from prison was made by the Deputy Inspector General of Prison. Tarique was greeted, cheered and congratulated by thousands of supporters.

When Tarique Rahman lost his father, he was hardly a boy of 15-16 years old. Many believe his mother Khalada Zia failed to grow up her children in a good way. As soon as she took charge of such huge party from a mere house wife, she hardly had any time for the proper upbringing of her young sons.

One thing is highly remarkable, when Tarique Rahman’s release news was spread, some thousands of his supporters sparkled with joy. Which means despite effort from certain quarter to BRAND him as THUG failed. People still love him as they used to but were may be angry that they didn’t expect to see Ziaur Rahman’s son as a completely dis-honest man. In response to the jubilant people Tareq simply waved hands from his hospital cabin window.

Until he left the country, he was seen always moving in a wheel chair. On September 11, 2008, Tareq Rahman left Dhaka for United Kingdom.

Unlike many other politicians Tarique Rahman didn’t just jump up from his wheel chair on hearing the news that he is FREE!

We know that Tarique Rahman is to return to the country as a Bangladeshi court asked him and his mother to be present at the court on August 30, 2009. What if Tarique really comes back and faces the court? At best the government can send him back to prison. Prove him guilty? OUT OF QUESTION! Because we have already learnt from many ‘sensible political personalities’ that Anti Corruption Commission, its former headman and many people involved with it are simply MAD people. So, it was either those MADS in Anti Corruption Commission or in some other organization who just tried to defame politicians during the non-political government.

Many cases have already been withdrawn or are in the process of withdrawal because WE know that those cases were ‘politically motivated’.

From Tarique Rahman’s behavior and movements, after his days in prison it is clear that a fresh man is born within him. There is no doubt that Tarique Rahman is the son of one of the most honest man in Bangladesh. Just not honest, a man with vision and piety. Even he himself has proven his credibility. Is it impossible that this country will get a re-incarnated Zia who is needed NOW through Tarique Rahman[?]

Ya Mr. 10% coming back... I bet he will. Its a strange country with a lots of surprises.

:smitten:General Zia was the best leader in the History of Bangladesh:agree::agree::agree:

There is no one to match him, its our bad luck:hitwall: that we could not protect him:cry:

He is the best president ever in the History of BANGLADESH.

My question is - Who/Which country was behind his assasination?:cray:

Tariq Zia doesn't need to be like his father as he will never be one however if he just adopts half of his father quality than he will be unstoppable. He got people skill and somewhat charismatic but need to pick and chose his sorrounding next time around if the ever get the 2nd chance. He needs to spend few years aboard to educate himself and study geo politics. He must come back and prove that he is the worthy son of General Zia.

So far we have not seen Tareque to adopt any percent, let alone 50%, of his father's character and quality. But, he has adopted 200% of her greedy mother's bad quality. In case of Tareque, the saying should be modified to 'Like mother like son.' A curved tail always remains curved. This half-educated fellow should be thrown to the dustbin of politics. In fact, he has already been.

We all entitle to our own opinion. Only time will decide Tariq's fate. I as one can not take him out of picture yet as long as BNP stand.

Things can change. I think he have realized his guilties and people still want him.
Time will answer many of these question.

If TR is proven guilty then he should be in jail but if a court clears him then TR should be allowed to take full part in politics.

I hoipe that TR will now show some maturity and will actually TRY to walk his father's path.

I wish you guys the best of luck!

No Doubt the best person the Bengali nation ever produce. When he died, there were millions of people in his Janaza vs. Bakshali leader who have 12-15 people.

BRO Eastwatch,

It was over emphasized in quoran to verify the 'Source of information'. After reading many of your posts, I got astonished by seeing the level of 'Factual errors' in it (No offence, please). I'm not a registered BNP wala and criticize Tarique, Khaleda a lot for their intellectual bankruptcies, mediocrity and for not understanding the scheme of 'New world order' but never toe the line of Prothom and Daily lies (Alo and star that people call) to level a gentle, kind and giving man as greedy, extortionist, thief etc, simply because thousands of its accusations against him of smuggling 1400 crore, 1200 crore of TK or creating empire in Malaysia etc weren't even brought/mentioned while filing cases against him like Saddam wasn't charged for WMD's possession and they had to arrest him first then file a graft case of 1 crore TK, which even proved to be phony that correlated with Saddam's hanging by farcical/victor's trail of dugail murder. In the propaganda world, it is known as 'Creation of pre-emptive lies to assassinate the character of someone's disliked later to legalize his arrest/detention through public eyes'. It is infect the repetition of a well-known Geobolian deception. Tariq became RAWAMY target for entirely different reasons that was hardly addressed by anyone here. His successful maneuver that brought BNP into power in 2001 and 'Grass-root acts of organizing BNP', made it the largest party in BD. He became an icon to new generation BNP walas and after his active participation in politics, that party's cosmetic outlook changed radically. Whilst BNP wasn't an idealist party and its cadres were almost same as ALers, Tariq's impute took that bad omen away and generated millions of NAMAZIES. You wouldn't believe that even PINTU became PAKKA NAMAZY afterwords. Those were the disturbing factors for RAW bastards because we were becoming better Muslims under BNP/JI's patronizations. Thus Hironmoy Karlakar's 'BD as next Afghanistan' type of book started to emerge by numbers to paint Tariq as a goon, extortionist etc.

Now let's talk about Khaleda's greed. Bastard/traitor MUA tried everything in his power to find Khaleda's illegal asset by microscope but failed and all the cases were on the ways of quashed or would be quashed soon. OTH daughter of 'Kombol Chorder Neta''s 13 cases were on trial schedule, each and everyone of which, she would have found guilty by the opinion of neutral experts. So, be judicious before writing something the bias of that magnitude, please.

There are many loopholes, that a political man can go through without getting punishment for his crimes in a competent court of laws. But, population are there to give him their kind of verdict. As Tareque was not in a govt position, he cannot probably be prosecuted for corruption. Yet, he led the corruption syndicate during the tenure of his mother as the PM. All his cronies have been found to have minted money.

To become a leader he chose the easiest way. He took shelter under the shade of his PM mother, appointed his yes man cronies to the important ministerial posts, did crimes through them and earned his millions. Without 1/11, he would have used the glitterings of his millions to win an election set-up.

Instead, he should have educated himself and gone to the villages, to the doors of poor Bangladeshis and talked to them to know about their grievances. He should have educated himself about the development economy of a poor country. He should have studied what function electricity plays to develop the industrial sector. He should have organized his Party in the grass root level.

A poor but wise man is far better than a monied but ignorant man. Tareque belongs to the latter group. He is not fit to lead a nation.

Provide the proof. If Moeen U at the helm of state power with the backing from US, UK and India could not prove TR alleged corruption why should anyone believe your stinky propaganda???

Once again prove his involvement in corruption. It goes to show how little you know about Bnagladesh politics other than what chief indian stooge Hasian say it in press.

Once again your sheer ignorance and subscription to awami propaganda could not be more clear. Because TR is one Bangladeshi politician who had traveled almost all Bangladeshi Upzilla and tried to organize BNP. He had took initiative of creating database of strength, weakness and needs of each upzilla of Bangladesh. That is one of the reason he had been targated. Go look through newspaper archive.

On education part, he could do better but thats not to say with his level of education one can not be good leader. History of leaders tells us otherwise.
