Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has been asked to formulate a strategy in collaboration with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for developing a ‘Mono Rail’ service in order to connect the twin cities and the Islamabad International Airport (IIA), according to news sources.
A meeting to review the progress of the development projects currently underway in Rawalpindi was held on Saturday. The meeting was chaired by Commissioner (r) Captain Mohammad Mehmood and discussed this project among Leh Expressway, Rawalpindi Ring Road, Daducha and Chahan dams projects. The development work on the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) was also reviewed.
The meeting was informed that the RDA had included the remodeling of Ammar Chowk in the government’s project as part of the intercity ‘Mono Train’ service; expected to run along the Leh Expressway.
The senior RDA officials also informed the meeting that the Ammar Chowk remodeling plan was approved by the Punjab Planning and Development Department (P&D), but will now need to be revised to complement the Mono Train project.

The provincial government has decided that the expressway will culminate at Kattarian near I J Principal Road and connect with the 9th Avenue. Both Nespak and a Chinese firm will conduct a feasibility study on the Mono Train project.
CDA and RDA teams will meet in a few days to discuss the plan and sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The train service will lower traffic congestion.
Commissioner Mehmood has also directed the RRR consultant to submit the first draft of the PC-I to him by the end of February 2020. The land revenue department will complete the list of villages affected by this project in the meantime.
