The US Navy (USN) is moving forward with plans to give a portion of its Tomahawk Block IV inventory an organic maritime moving target capability with the award of a USD119 million contract with Raytheon Missile Systems for the development and prototyping of a new anti-ship seeker suite.

Intended as an upgrade for existing Tomahawk Block IV all-up-rounds, the so-called Maritime Strike Tomahawk programme will introduce an anti-ship seeker to achieve an initial operational capability (IOC) in fiscal year (FY) 2022. The modernisation is being planned in parallel with a forthcoming Block IV missile recertification programme.

Under the new contract award, announced on 30 August, Raytheon will perform analysis, trade studies, architecture, modeling, simulation development, evaluation, and prototyping activities for the integration of seeker suite technology and processing capabilities into the Tomahawk Block IV all-up-round in support of the Maritime Strike Tomahawk programme.
