Just as I expected, science is dominated primarily by the West and the US is still the leading power.

Great. So India produces over 12.2 times More scientific documents than Pakistan.

This is a somewhat misleading listing you've put up. What you posted here is scientific output from 1996 to 2014. However, if you want the output of a nation in particular year, you have the select the most recent year. This is important as nations like Iran started quite late in investments etc but they have moved up quickly.

Here is a list showing scientific output in 2014:

You're absolutely right my friend, but I wanted to show a long-term development. Besides, this ranking should be critically evaluated by the reader. For instance, Turkey and Iran are on a par in fact. The differences are absolutely insignificant. Aside from that, the ranking does not say anything about the quality of the scientific contributions.

Btw: We're gonna workt together: Turkey’s YÖK, Iran set up monitoring group on academic cooperation

I am happy to see Iran going up the ranks in terms of output, however as said, the issue of quality is another thing to be considered, however given Iran was under the most severe sanctions in modern history, I am not surprised if the ranking are not showing Iran's true potential. But frankly, as of now, Iran is doing okay but certainly not extremely impressive. Only when a nation can compare itself to proper players like Japan, UK, Germany in terms of quantity and quality, then we can talk.

There are other scientific rankings. Here is, for example, Turkey higher ranked than Iran. The differences between the two countries still remain minimal.

Iran is actually 16th, this is a misleading way of posting ranking by the OP. What you posted here is scientific output from 1996 to 2014. However, if you want the output of a nation in particular year, you have the select the most recent year

Yes this is misleading way of posting, if you check last 10 days Iran ranks at top5...

This thread is not about Iran vs Turkey. However, what you say is not true. The ranking you posted is using data, some of them out of date e.g from 2013. SJR is the most accurate ranking I have come across.
Iran is 16th and turkey is 19th, however if you looked just few years ago, turkey was ahead, the point here is Iran is moving up quickly, in the few years, the space between Iran and turkey will be even bigger.
Reason is quite clear, sanctions relief will allow Iran to meet its true potential better and collaboration with outside world and cooperation with outside world means HI will also go up. If you're interested in comparing Iran to turkey, then simply wait and keep eye on rankings and see which nation goes up the quickest in this field. However, with all due respect, I am not interested in the turkey's science ranking thus not really interested in taking this conversation any further.

Why are you upset mate, calm down. My source is from the sjr itself. Your compatriot posted a misleading ranking, anyone with brain can see that. Do you have evidence suggesting sjr is wrong?

Nope. I do not agree that Iran will overtake Turkey. I think that both countries will share a similar scientific level in the future.
