This seems more like an internal double cross of the MQM. For a few months the compounds inside the two Karachi cantonments have been trying to get the MQM to play their game but certain core members were not playing that tune.. in addition.. Amir Khan who was picked up was the popular choice for taking over from the fat one. It seems that one of the core members changed their minds and made a deal which ends up being translated into the raid.
MQM will be reformed with this Judas at the centre stage and Altaf Hussain will find himself left to rot in London.
If the situation goes out of control(which it wont) there is a possibility of Governor rule for Karachi; which is not a bad idea all things considered. Had they made Karachi a seperate administrative division in the first place things would never gotten this bad.. but the smiling man is much smarter than the collective IQ of 80% of Pakistan.

But will this raid translate into something big? Will MQM's armed wing be disbanded? If it does happen what will this mean for ANP and PPP and Taliban in Karachi? They get a free hand in Karachi?

MQM needs Serious Reforms and I guess they should Throw out Altaf and his Old time Buddies out of Leadership and introduce Second Generation of Leadership which has been part of Constructive activities in MQM starting during Musharraf's period Administration to MQM's establishment of Media Cell and other Setup. The problem her is that in last few hours MQM has Actually Gained lot of sympathies among people especially after Waqar Shah's controversial Killing so now these old lots are gaining Sympathies and ATC Court would also lead them to gain more Sympathies as well with this prospect I can only think that years of work to get rid of MQM has just started turning futile within Hours now.

This so called second generation is equally responsible of bhatta khori and involved in China cutting,land grabbing. How can you say second generation of MQM would reform the party ?

Would second generation leadership of MQM disband south african target killer network i.e Agha murtaza ?

trace back the history prior to the operation of late General Naseerullah Baber (may his soul rest in peace) in Karachi which made MQM leadership to rethink its outlook and attitude.. there has been a marked change from an outright thuggish, blackmailing ethnic terrorist party in cahoots with other hostile foreign agencies to a relatively reformed mainstream party,

You will notice many migrants calling names to Naseerullah Babar. But the situation MQM created demanded swift attention. Naseerullah Babar in my books is a hero who saved many lives.

I do not agree much has changed with the MQM.

it used the anguish of the muhajirs to its advantage and has been the best representative of this very important ethnic group because other mainstream parties (bar Jamat islami) are chronically xenophobe, bigoted and self serving due to their cartel/ feudal structure. PTI did make some inroads into Mohajir representation but it has been on the wrong footing and ended into a collusion course and confrontation with a protective MQM. resulting in many tragic deaths during election times.

I think more so it has succeeded in convincing migrants that they are being oppressed or are being subjugated to the whim of Punjabis. This is detrimental thought that has deeply affected our loyalty to Pakistan. We will blame the police, the army, Saddam Hussain, Katrina Kaif, the moon, aliens, everything except looking within and asking, "is it not us who harbour the ethnic mindset?

yes it has its own violent squads and yes its founding leader has a questionable past but this shouldn't be used against the party.

Bro I seriously don't know what else could. MQM chief called partition a blunder and asked India to give pannah to muhajirs. I think that is a huge insult to people like me who have lost members of my indirect family to India. Our grandfather (fathers side) escaped with his and my grandmothers life in their mouths. So selling us to India is going to turn a lot of us Pakistani Nationalist migrants against the party.

Do note I am not so condescending of MQM because of my albeit weak and unproven pashtun links. My khandaan sees itself and are staunch MQM supporting mahajirs. I just feel that a party that does not accept Pakistan as a state cannot have my loyalty. I also have severe reservations over how migrants have behaved after partition.

It is touching that you respect the right of mahajirs to vote for said party-but do note that to show solidarity with us there are many other ways. MQM is being called a terrorist organization by the entire country. We migrants should walk with the country. Also do note that then there are these Syed Jalaluddins of our community.

come on Jamat Islami continues to enjoy the perks of the government and say in the affairs of Pakistan despite being busted for housing the mastermind of 9/11 KSM and despite what its former lunatic Ameer had to say for Osama and his fight.

The Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Ramzi Yousuf case shows that our military's performance before 2007 was optimal. Many wanted terrorists (wanted by the govt of USA) were arrested by us. We should remind this to the Americans when they question our role in WOT. On the other hand Abdullah Mehsud was released from Guantanamo and look how that went. I cant dictate MQM leadership and its supporters on how to reshape its outlook and how to conduct itself but I am a well wisher because I know MQM matters for Karachi which matters for Pakistan.

Well I think the liberal parties have betrayed us more than once. People once unequivocally stood beside the PPPP because then ZAB was talking about secularism and was the only party sympathetic to the left wing. Look how that went. ZAB banned drinking even for minorities, danced with mullahs. called Ahmedis kaffir and threatened to break the limbs of Bengalis.

MQM has luckily not been elected to power throughout the nation but I predict the same behavior from them if they came to power. Yes they and the PPPP may be (unfortunately) the only ones voicing concern about the evil LEJ and TTP those are not the only factors to be considered in our leaders. Both parties are involved in a gang war on Karachi (Pakistani) soil.

I do not know much about that I must admit as I am not very old. But what I do know that it is indeed Karachites themselves who have thrown away the opportunity to develop it into a major port by fighting amongst each other. A political party that is involved in this-well I don't think it is right to support such party let alone have sympathy for it.

whatever game the state (establishment as per Dr Shahid Massod meaning army) / government is playing it must ensure it keeps situation under control.

I just believe the government needs to take equal even handed action against:
1) All political parties engaged in violence
2) All sectarian and militant outfits (Like LEJ and TTP)

If we don't take even handed action then the muhajirs will quickly start crying that the operation was against them as only 90 was targetted not MArdan house. The forces should have gone to amn comittee and mardan house on the same day. Already my cousins that are in Pakistan are shouting foul that rangers planted the weapons

MQM was born in 1984. 1985-1990 we lost 3000 people in Karachi. Other figures say from 1986-1996 10000 people died.
