ISLAMABAD- The government and the opposition have agreed to appoint retired Supreme Court judge Rana Bhagwandas as Chief Election Commissioner, a private TV channel reported today.
According to sources, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar contacted opposition leader Syed Khurshid Shah in the National Assembly to take him on board.
Some amendments are expected to be presented in the National Assembly tomorrow to remove legal hiccups of appointing Bhagwandas as CEC.
Supreme Court Judge Justice Nasirul Mulk has been serving as an acting CEC following the resignation of Fakhruddin G Ibrahim, who relinquished the coveted post last year.
Rana Bhagwandas will be the next Chief Election Commissioner
