Rafael advances fifth-generation Spike variant

Its virtually a zero chance that Spike missile will ever attack a tank equipped with Trophy.
Do you want to bet on that?,recently iran unveiled something that looked like a literal carbon copy of the spike and we know that hezbollah very likely captured at least one spike system back in 06 so the chance of this being a reverse/reengineered copy is actually pretty good and I would also think the chances that hezbollah will be equipped with these in the near future is also pretty good and it does then seriously raise the possibility of trophy equipped merkavas being targeted by this weapon. It also raises a very interesting question would it have backwards compatibility ie would hezbollah spike copy launchers be able to use captured israeli spike missiles or would hezbollah missiles be able to use captured israeli launchers..hhmmm...its all certainly very interesting

Well,it very likely would depend on what access to what resources and technology I had at my disposal,if for instance I had a team of individuals who were skilled in the relevant fields that was lead by a competent manager and also had prior experience with reverse and reengineering and had the requisite funding and resources of course, then I would be fairly confident in at least the possibility of doing so and if you then throw in the resources of an entire nation state into the pot.....well theres probably an awful lot you then can do,certainly I think that reverse/reengineering an atgm is well within irans capabilities.

Rafael will launch deliveries of its Spike LR II air-to-surface missile in the fourth quarter of 2018, having already secured a first customer.

An evolution of the Israeli company's Spike series of helicopter-launched weapons, the new design features extended-range performance. It carries either a tandem high-explosive anti-tank warhead, offering a 30% increase in armour penetration capability, or a multi-purpose blast warhead, the fuse for which can be optimised after launch, according to target requirements.

To be displayed for the first time at the Paris air show later this month, the Spike LR II also gains a new electro-optical/infrared seeker with smart target tracker capabilities, the company says.

"Rafael has developed the new version to answer the operational requirements of clients that are engaged in asymmetric warfare, and those that have to cope with advanced tanks equipped with active armour," says Gal Papier, marketing and business development manager for the company's precision tactical weapon systems directorate.

Weighing 12.7kg (28lb), the new missile can be launched from any current Spike launcher, says Rafael. A Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk utility helicopter can carry up to four two-round launchers. The weapon has an effective range of up to 5.4nm (10km).
