I am against the Suicides no matter under what circumstances someone take his/her life .. in this case i think the Soldier must been in very difficult position , if he defies the Orders of his Senior than he might have to face court martial , and if he follow the Orders to shoot at Pakistan , his Moral is getting hurt .. but i think this guy should have just left the army and launch a Protest if he wants to make a difference , giving his life away like this is not a sensible thing , i doubt the Sikh religion also allow Suicide ..

Stop coming to conclusions when you do not have any idea, Sikhs in western countries are dropping their turbans and believes faster than any other religion. It is a natural process, but Sikhs are ahead closely followed by hindus.

A source would help veracity, but RIP. However, his refusal to fight is essentially insubordination of orders.
So if one takes it from the standpoint of someone wanting peace; this is a good omen.
But if one takes it from the standpoint of a soldier; it is a mixed plate. Because at the end, his bullets do not protect India but his fellow IA troops.
That he chose suicide over court martial is again a mixed result; because he would be hounded regardless of the nobility of his core belief.

I know personally of a IA Major(or Captain) who refused to fire on Kashmiri protesters during the 90's. He was drummed out of service but he was recognized later by civil society for protecting civilians.

Jinnah tried his best to convince Sikhs to stay put in United punjab under Pakistan but they refused. What a silly decision it was. In Pakistan, it's punjab which is the king maker and had they been part of Pakistan, they would have yielded immense political clout.
