Qureshi and his backers torn between PML-N and PTI
By Abdul Manan
Published: October 16, 2011
LAHORE:
A Pakistan Peoples Party stalwart Shah Mehmood Qureshi is in a fix over whether to join the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz or Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, sources told The Express Tribune.
The former foreign minister, who is a long-standing member of the PPP, fell out of favour with his party’s leadership in the aftermath of the Raymond Davis controversy, and has since courted other parties. Qureshi reportedly declared two days ago that he would quit the PPP.
Sources close to Qureshi say that around 20 PPP MNAs and 25 MPAs from South Punjab and interior Sindh have assured Qureshi they will follow him if he defects. Most favour the PML-N, though some are arguing in favour of PTI.
Qureshi accepts that the PML-N is a stronger party, but he is also believed to think that his group would be more dominant in the smaller PTI. However, if Qureshi joins the PTI rather than the PML-N, he is unlikely to receive significant support.
Sources in the PML-N said that a few weeks ago Qureshi met with PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, who informed him that his supporters would be warmly welcomed.
The two leaders recently held another backdoor meeting in Islamabad where it was decided that Qureshi would contact PPP dissident Dr Zulfiqar Mirza during his visit to interior Sindh in November.
The agenda of this possible meeting was not disclosed.
It is also believed that Qureshi’s negotiations with the PTI are ongoing, though Qureshi has informed PTI chief Imran Khan that his supporters have reservations over joining the party.
PTI’s Central Information Secretary Omar Sarfraz Cheema said that Qureshi was indeed in negotiations with the PTI, but that it was premature to elaborate. Asked about Khan’s recent statement that a large number of PPP members would soon join the PTI, he said that other political figures in addition to Qureshi were in touch with the party.
Qureshi himself told The Express Tribune that in his October 4 speech in the National Assembly he expressed his disappointment with the current regime. Qureshi’s frustration, it seems, is echoed by several PPP MPAs and MNAs.
Asking for their names not to be used, the members told The Express Tribune that the government had disappointed its voters, and that President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had ignored the party’s MPAs.
Qureshi admitted he was in touch with both Sharif and Khan, but said that he had not yet made up his mind about joining another party. He said that he has worked with Sharif as his finance minister, and he had no differences with PML-N MNA Javed Hashmi. He added that he had always had a good relationship with Khan.

I am not saying whether it is wrong or right....
but he will definitely join PML N

.
I don't have short memory so i would say he should join PML-N not PTI, Even though im a Pro Musharraf and APML Voter but i respect PTI since they are not tested yet. the reason i would wish Qureshi to join PML-N is because he doesn't deserve PTI, People like Qureshi will only bring shame to PTI because he the the same person who helped in Kerry Luger bill he is the same guy which all of us hated when he was so close to USA, he is the same guy whose pictures were floating in media and web with Haley Clinton. Who helped and persueded Husain haqqani to issue vises to cia etc on the permission of Zardari, when he realized that election are near he decided to depart from PPP, mark my words that Qureshi and Zulfiqar are two who has departed from PPP on the permission of Zardari who has asked them to just go against government so that they create their place in next elections and when these morons will win seats watch that how they join back to PPP and help their lord Zardari. All big show which innocent Pakistani public doesn't get. It's shameful. IF he decide to go then he should take his unworthy self to PML-N because he will look good their not in PTI

Dear if you don't find the courage to openly states whats in your heart/mind....Its useless!!

but he will definitely join PML N

He is an establishment man no doubt about it...weather he joins PMLN or PTI he still belongs to his masters...no one else...you can mark my words!!!

The problem here for our establishment right at this moment is whom he supports in next general elections who not only can wins but also ditto their orders exactly. They have Eggs in thier hands right at this moment waiting to be placed at PMLn specially but only when they make NS realize that its better to walk with themselves i/o solo flight. NS too knows it very well that no one ignore establishment if he/she wants to rule in Pakistan but still he is totally reluctant to offer anything in exchange of SMQ & Associates.

Therefore, SMQ decision is pending........Sure he can be use as a "Stick" once PMLn totally refuse to accommodate even an Inch!!.

.
he can act as a bridge between PML N and PTI .... so that both parties with his support can make a strong political team
