I have a question, In Islam if the Father is Muslim is a child born Muslim?

I ask the question to clear up confusion in my mind on if Obama was a Muslim who converted to Chritianity.

According to Islamic belief all children are innocent... i.e. they will not be discriminated on the basis of where they were born.

Without going in details, principally Muslim means believing in the religion of peace, once you are mentally mature.

Even mentally challenged adults are also considered innocent i.e. equivalent to children.

However based on your question, the answer is that Islam isn't inherited. Islam isn't like Judaism in which case if a child's mother is Jewish then he or she would be considered Jewish. Islam is a belief & most of its followers do not have similar origins as is apparently the case with Judaism.

A Muslim is one who believes that there is no God but Allah & Muhammad is His messenger. Thus, even if a child's parents are Muslims, he or she will not be a Muslim if he or she does not believe in what I stated earlier.

As the others have already said, children up to the age of 7 do not have judgment for their actions. They're as Muslim as the skies or the ant or the air. They know and recognize their Creator and accept (Islam among other things translates into acceptance) their place as His slaves. They eventually forget* and learn the ways of the world.

What if you never ask and he never says? You're talking iimaan and the question is about islaam, the former is in the heart and we don't have access to it for other people, the latter could just be a legal status. By outward judgment, you can just assume the child is Muslim until and unless he or she clarifies otherwise.

Every kid born in a Muslim family is a born Muslim. But when the kid grows up , he has to understand and admit his/her faith both verbally & whats called a "confirmation of heart". If a person converts from Islam to another religion or becomes an agnostic or an atheist he/she loses the muslim identity and is considered a murtid or Kafir (unbeliever) depending on who you ask.

However Islam is open to anyone , even those who previously renounced it , if they wish to rejoin , but it must be made clear that Islam under no circumstances can be seen as "a race" as it rejects the idea of race completely unlike Judism where jews mistakenly consider themselves to be a race.

So if Obama was born as Muslim & converted to Christianity & publicly confirmed it then there is absolutely no way for him to be a "secret muslim" according to Islamic theology as i explained before , one needs to say & confirm their Islamic faith by heart , this is when you become a muslim , similarly not practicing Islam ie not praying , drinking , having pre or extra marital sex , taking drugs , taking or dealing in interest even eating pork won't make anyone a non muslim until he/she rejects his/her faith in Islam both verbally and by heart.

Obama's middle name is Hussain -- which is why many Americans are suspicious. Hussain is an Islamic name , He was the Grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Since he is publicly announced his Christian faith , the name is no longer relevant.

A Muslim by birth is a Muslim in the sense that he doesn’t need to convert. There is nothing stopping him being an apostate or an agnostic or even an atheist.

Obama may have been born a Muslim but he has been a member of the Trinity United Church of Chicago. This makes him a Christian. Most important thing is what the man himself says he is. Obama claims he is a Christian, who am I to doubt it?

Besides, these days it is no longer sufficient to be born in a family of Muslims. New fashionable Wahhabi/Takfiri / Salafin creed followers have appointed themselves as the judge of who is a Muslim and consider all others who don’t agree with their belief as ‘Kafirs’.

Did you even bother to read my entire post? I did not discuss "iman", I am discussing the requirement for being a Muslim. Iman's simplest translation is faith or belief, thus "iman" is a part of Islam itself. You should consider reading the question again yourself. Remember that I stated earlier that every child is born a Muslim, but as a person grows his or her belief must be that there is no God but Allah & Muhammad is His final messenger. Anyone who doesn't believe that is not a Muslim, even if his or her parents were. If a child's beliefs regarding God evolve over time as he/she ages to be different from the Islamic view, for example if he/she begins to believe in more than one God, then that person will not be a Muslim.

You might assume someone is a Muslim because he or she was born to Muslim parents or because that person's identity card says that they are a Muslim, but it isn't a necessity unless they clarify their religious beliefs of course. Some people may hide their rejection of Islam out of fear of backlash from their family, but God knows their true beliefs & God will be aware that that person has rejected Islam. My post simply intended to state the requirement to be met for a person to be a Muslim. Remember as soon as a person believes the "shahadah", then that person is by definition a Muslim even if they don't declare their faith. Don't ever tell me what I am or am not in a position to do, speak for yourself alone. There is absolutely nothing wrong with whatever I said, you might have misconstrued my post or read that sentence out of context or something. You are free to ask whoever you consider an authority on Islam if you don't believe me.
