Why can't you just say Qatari Air Force? Short and sweet :-)

Because their official name is :
QATAR EMIRI AIR FORCE (QEAF) • القوات المسلحة القطرية
?
And in French, we're usually specific : Army of the air.
It's like that!

G'dday mate, Tay.

Emir = Leader - Head of State
Emiri = Belonging to Leader, sort of like Royal

So if one were to remove "Emiri" the closest replacement would be "Royal"

So where does Army come in?
What you have quoted is for the Armed Forces
Armed Forces (of) Qatar = القوات المسلحة القطرية

For the Air Force in Arabic would be: القوات الجوية الأميرية القطرية
as you can see on the C17 below.

Have a good evening Brother.

First part was a joke on your QAF when it's QEAF.

Second part of my answer : Armée in French is either a branch as in Force
or a whole ensemble to go to war with.

The latter would be La Grande Armée of Napoléon or 1st 3rd 5th Armies, etc.
The former is why we have an Armée de Terre (Ground ) & an Armée de l'Air.
Our "air force" also came from the Ground Army. The Navy has its own name.

The Americans say Army only but mean the ground force anyway. It's like that!

Besides, born 1909; created in 1943 ... we were there first,
we'll call it what we pretty well want ...

:p: Good evening bro, Tay.

Seems the Chinese have something in common with you PLAAF, PLAAN :partay:

Qatar made the right decision to buy Rafale jets.

I think so and more and more Air Forces around the world are coming to that conclusion either.

The Rafale is a formidable war machine (a proven one) and is still regularly updated.

F3R standard is coming in 2018 and F4 standard studies get started a few weeks ago so the Rafale is here to stay and France will do what is necessary to keep it at the edge.

One problem... it's not that cheap... ( Même si ils ont fait un peu d'effort sur ce sujet...)
That's why only Arabs ( and India) are buying it for now... Hope the Malaysian contract is accepted too.

But if it could be cheaper... I'd love seeing a few hundreds more in our Armée de l'Air...
And a BETTER CAMO!! than the simple grey...

Nothing of quality comes for free. I'm sure second hand F-16 or M2K can be available for countries looking for good & cheap old planes.

Agreed for the boring current camo of the AdA.

It's cheaper than it's main competitor which is the Eurofighter typhoon , the rest is cheaper but it outclass them all ( f16 , mig35 , gripen)
