This article shows why russia and putin are the only losers on the current conflict. Putin lost evrything.
Russia is part of the world. It needs western know how, investment and modernisation to be able to compete. Putin cuts russia away from the world.
Russia lost its bonus as former G8 member and is now reduced to the status of a developing country. Russia can offer nothing to its neighbors. No whealth, no freedom and no future concept. Because of that russia will rot away between the West and China. But thats just the global perspective for russias dark future.
The total loss is also personal for Putin. Before the crisis Putin had a puppet regime in Kiew and a secure base on the crimean. Now he only has the base on the crimean.
Before the crisis Ukraine balanced between east and west. Of course it was not perfect but the EU did not even dream about letting Ukraine join.
Now Putin pushed Ukraine more into the west than ever before and he forces the EU to think about membership for the Ukraine. Now the western block reaches hundreds of miles closer to russias boarder than ever before. Putins goal was the entire difference.
The europeans must see now that they won a game they didn´t even want to play. The new german foreign policy should not longer try to bring Putin back into the game but more so what good things we can do with our victory. The crimean isn´t worth any conflict.
