Punjab warned about ‘IS militants returning from Syria’

RAWALPINDI: Elements linked with the militant Islamic State (IS) group who are returning to Pakistan from Syria could pose a serious threat to the security situation in Punjab, intelligence sources have warned.

The IS-linked militants, who ostensibly went from Pakistan to fight in Syria, are likely to return via Afghanistan. In the past, there have been reports of a number of Pakistanis joining the ranks of the IS to fight in the ongoing battle between the Syrian government and militants.

Amir Rana of the Pakistan Institute of Peace Studies said it was not certain weather the militants attempting to return were Pakistanis or expatriates.

In a recent meeting, sources said, law enforcement officials were asked to adopt a proactive approach to control militancy and anti-social elements. Rawalpindi police chief Israr Ahmed Abbasi told Dawn: “Joint search and combing operations are being conducted in the district on a regular basis to keep a check on suspicious elements.”

Pakistan needs to take the ISIS threat very very seriously, they cannot be pushed under the carpet. Their ideology has a strong pull and can corrupt the minds of even well educated individuals. Each and every individual returning from such countries should be thoroughly investigated and interrogated.

ISIS is the biggest emerging threat at this time bigger than current threats(they are under control now), punishment for those returning should be nothing less than shoot at sight or hang until death , we don't want to be engaged in that mess again, enough of being polite and nice, time for HARDCORE straight away from the start.

They are coming along with their vile ISIS ideology and they will definitely try to mobilize and spread their venom if not challenged. And opportunist like India will also try to use these savages.

Pakistanis need passports to enter through Afghanistan right?

For the next 12 months they should institute more stringent border control, more investigations, and detain and interrogate those believed to have gone to Syria/Iraq.

Those ISIS fighters are going to come back with a Jihadist mindset, and now with experience they could easily set up a new group based in Pakistan.
