Punjab Police kills suspected Militant in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD/LAHORE: A police constable and a suspected militant were killed while three other policemen were injured in an encounter at People’s Colony on Tuesday.

Police said officials Haseeb, Ghulam Mustafa, Shoaib and Zeeshan stopped a car (ICT-LV-231) on Jaranwala Road on suspicion. The car occupants opened fire killing constable Haseeb on the spot and injuring others. The policemen returned fire which led to the death of a militant but his three accomplices fled leaving the vehicle behind.

Police said they recovered 10 hand grenades, two Kalashnikovs, four pistols and live bullets from the vehicle.

Regional Police Officer Ahsan Tufail said the Faisalabad CPO and DPOs of Jhang, Chiniot and Toba Tek Singh had been directed to launch search operation against terrorists. He said the police had announced Rs300,000 as cash prize for identifying the terrorists.

City Police Officer Afzaal Kausar told Dawn that the injured policemen were out of danger. He said teams had been constituted to arrest militants and these policemen valiantly shot dead one suspect.

Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Sukhera said police would foil the nefarious designs of terrorists.

Speaking to CPO Afzal Kausar after the attack on police officials, he appreciated the performance and timely action taken by the Faisalabad police to save the city from disaster as planned by the terrorists.

According to the IGP, police impounded the car and seized two Kalashnikovs, 10 magazines, 169 bullets, four pistols with 22 bullets, 10 hand grenades, one hammer, two mobile phones, a blue bag, a veil, two gloves and two masks.

On the directions of the IGP, the Faisalabad police cordoned off the city and launched a search operation.

The constable who lost his life was the father of one. A resident of Chak 209, he had joined police force in 2007. His funeral prayers were offered at the Faisalabad Police Lines.
