Punjab govt, PR discuss coal transportation through trains

LAHORE - Pakistan Railways and Punjab government in a meeting on Saturday discussed coal transportation through trains for proposed coal power projects in the province.
Punjab government had announced to establish six coal power plants at Qadirabad near Sahiwal and other locations and the Railways was ready for the transportation of coal for these projects.
Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique presided over the meeting while Punjab Energy Department Additional Chief Secretary Jahanzeb Khan, Transport Secretary and Mineral Department Secretary represented the provincial government. Railways chairperson Mrs Parveen Aga, Railways GM (Operations) Anjum Pervez and Railways Board Secretary Aftab Akbar were also present in the meeting. A statement issued by the Railways stated that matter of shipment of coal from Karachi to its transportation in the country was discussed in details. Railways was ready to cooperate with the Punjab government to coup with the energy problem provided its preparation would be made on priority basis and in line with the planning done by the Railways , it was stated. Railways minister emphasised the department needed high power locomotives for the transportation of the coal. He said the Railways was preparing feasibility for the purpose and ask the provincial government for the funds to purchase the said locomotives.
