PESHAWAR: A spokesman for the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) claimed on Friday that Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Fazal Elahi along with his armed guards secured the release of defaulters from the custody of its employees on the Kohat Road.

The spokesman said the Pesco staff along with the police conducted routine checking for removal of hooks (kundas) and recovery of arrears from the defaulters in Achar area. He said that during the action a few people were arrested for illegal use of electricity but the MPA arrived there and secured the release of those arrested at gunpoint from the Pesco and police staff.

He said the lawmaker threatened Pesco and the police personnel not to enter his KP-6 constituency in future as they would have to face the consequences. He added that the Pesco wrote to the Bhanamari Police Station to lodge an FIR against the MPA for preventing its employees from discharging duty.

When contacted, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Fazal Elahi rejected Pesco’s claim and said he was unaware of the incident. He said the Pesco officials had taken away meters from the houses in his constituency and the consumers were annoyed over it.

He said he had seen the Pesco press release and termed it a pack of lies. He added that he would table a privilege motion against those who issued it. In his rebuttal to the Pesco claim, he said the officials of the company were involved in selling electricity to the crushing machines and others and getting money without keeping its record. “The Pesco under its chief executive officer has become a den of corruption and the provincial government will raise voice against it,” the MPA said.
