1. What's the purpose behind your website?
The purpose is simple: to collect $ 10 million (US) in contributions for Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) to utilise for the campaign of youth candidates in the upcoming 2013 General Elections by selling blocks and helping colourise the iconic image of Imran Khan.
2. How does it work?
Our homepage picture consists of more than a million pixels. We invite contributors to either buy 100-pixel 'blocks' or help colourise the image if they choose to make a contribution of less than a 100 dollars.
The reason for requiring contributors to buy 100-pixel 'blocks' is simple: a single pixel is a minute area of illumination on a display screen, and anything less than 100-pixel blocks makes it difficult to display anything meaningful. Contributors may buy as many 100-pixel blocks as they wish.
Once you buy your block(s), you can hover your cursor over the pixel block(s) sold to you, which will reveal your name and 140-character message for PTI, e.g. "Property of Mr. XYZ. Message: 'GO PTI TIGERS GO!'"
Please note that no offensive messages are allowed; such messages will be erased immediately. You can also have the block click through to your own Facebook or Twitter page. (You can also make contributions anonymously, so that your name will not be displayed publicly.)
Your pixel block(s), along with your name and message, will be displayed on our homepage permanently. We guarantee to keep the website online for at least 10 years but it can be much longer if we receive an overwhelmingly positive response.
In this way, you can own a piece of our nation's history forever!
3. Why should we contribute?
You may want to contribute because PTI faces a tough battle in the forthcoming elections. Its candidates will run against:
powerful, vested interests;
seasoned constituency politicians with immense personal wealth; and
political parties in government that spend taxpayers' money in shape of gifts and hand-outs to gain favour and votes.
As a PTI supporter, you may also be aware of PTI's promise to give 25 % of party tickets to young candidates (under 35 years of age). Unlike traditional, well-off politicians, these candidates will need your financial help to run their campaigns. With your contributions, PTI can help fund the general election campaign of these young candidates who earn the partys ticket.
4. Why do you require payment in US dollars instead of, say, the British Pound Sterling?
We decided to accept payment in US dollars because:
dollars are the universal currency of the internet; and
payment of 1 Pound Sterling per pixel would make it more expensive to pay 100 pixel blocks, e.g. 100 Pound Sterling equals roughly 152 US Dollars (as of 24 March 2012). We recognised that this may make it difficult to some people to buy pixels.
