What's new

Proud to be Pakistani

. . . .
Pakistan, the land itself is thoroughly enriched with beauty from the serene coastline in the south to the proud and bold peaks of the K-2, ancient history spanning thousand of years, mysterious civilisations who have resided in it and a battleground which has seen certain parts of the land be fought for by various ancient tribes and empires. We have everything to be proud for of this very sacred land but sadly the people of Pakistan have let the country down and it requires a great deal of the Pakistanis who reside in that country to make a change not with the gun but with their voices and their right to vote as it's time we got rid of this feudal system plaguing Pakistan bought by the Muhajirs from India, times of the Sharif and Bhutto along with other ruling muhajir family with the same intentions has to come to an end.

Pakistan Zindabad! Live in America, but think about Pakistan everyday... Pakistan has a very special place in my heart... waiting for the day to move there for good, I think my appreciation for Pakistan has grown immensely after staying 15 years outside Pakistan. :pakistan:

Well, in NJ/NY, the Pakistani/Indian cuisines pretty much go side by side. By that, what I mean is that where you have Indian restaurants, there is a good chance you will find Pakistani restaurants close to it. Indian food consists of vegetarian food (dosas and stuff), while Pakistani food has meat with it. Pakistanis & Indians get along pretty well here, & assimilate a lot with one another.

Anyways, the best places for Pakistani food in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) in my opinion are:

1. Jackson Heights in Queens, NY (amazing Pakistani food selection there)
2. 29th Street & Lexington Ave in Manhattan, NY (Lahori restaurants)
3. Edison, NJ (this is full of Indian & Pakistani restaurants)
4. New Haven, CT

I believe there are good Pakistani restaurants in Jersey City, NJ as well; but I've never been to those.

There is a very good website called: zabihah.com - your guide to halal eating

Type in your location of where you are in America, and it will give you the names of all the Halal restaurants within 10 miles. If you are particular about Halal & Zabihah Food like I am, this is a great website, as it tells you which restaurants are definitely Halal & Zabihah, no contentious ones.

Btw, are you staying in New York State, or New York City? Big difference between the two. Because for Six Flags, you would either have to go to New Jersey or Lake George/Buffalo, NY; which are far from New York City. Lake George/Buffalo are far from New York City, they are in upstate NY.

Life is decent here, not terribly exciting if you don't drink & go out partying. It's a good, solid place to have a good professional life, not because there are more job opportunities here, but because of the culture & society: no pressure of marriage etc. You can solely focus on your career. It doesn't have the "ronaq & craziness/life" of Pakistan, sometimes life is pretty stale. But it's pretty stable. This country is really cultureless, it has no culture. But it's embracing to all. It's a great country if you want to start up a business, it's great for entrepreneurship. It's a young country made up of immigrants. It's a country designed for the young, older people aren't revered in the same manner as they are in the South Asian culture, especially the Pakistani culture. You will see a lot of Asians (Chinese/Koreans/Japanese, as well as Indians) & Latino people (Mexicans) here. And no, the myth about racism in America is for the most part false. If you are a person that likes assimilation & acclimatizing in other societies & is tolerant to other cultures, & respects their viewpoints, no one will be racist against you. I've read Namaz in front of my white roommate for years. Whenever I used to go to his home, his mother made sure she didn't make food with any meat for me.

However, for the most cases, the average American will have very little if any knowledge about Islam than an average Englishman would. People in England have more knowledge about Islam & Muslims than people here in America do. Islam is seen as very 'Middle Eastern' here, a religion practiced by the 'Arabs'.

Appreciate the information bro, your an absolute gem for that website(bookmarked), that's the opposite to U.K we don't really get along at all with Indians. Most Pakistanis find Indian culture to be alien to our own and even i myself do as well. We'll be based in NYC but will be spending a day at Six Flags, have to look into the distance between NYC and Six Flags as i doubt we would want to pay for a hotel just for one day to visit a theme park even though Six Flags is epic.

Can't stand Indian cuisine and the last thing i want to do is ruin my holiday by going into an Indian restaurant with Indians around.

Nice to hear as i presumed it was like that personally i would hate it if there were hardly any Pakistani around in England we are quite fortunate we have a decent population of Pakistanis which helps keep you in touch with your roots.
