Former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja’s criticism of Bangladesh cricket and its players has irked the Bangladesh fans a great deal. Visibly not a fan of Bangladesh cricket, Rameez’s latest round of criticism though is no surprise given his history of dishing out offensive comments.

Rameez, who is part of the commentary team of the Star Sports network covering the ongoing 2015 ICC World Cup, openly offended Bangladesh as a country as well as its cricket team several times during their Pool A opener against Afghanistan last Wednesday at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

Those who watched the game between Bangladesh and Afghanistan, it was clearly evident for all to see that the 52-year old commentator was favouring the Afghans from the very first delivery of the match. And as far as the Tigers are concerned, they were on the receiving end of some unfair and baseless hostility.

Rameez started out by mocking the nicknames of the Bangladesh cricketers. The former skipper also made ill comments regarding the traffic system of Bangladesh. Rameez went as far as to question the role played by the Bangladesh Cricket Board towards the development of cricket in the country.

At times, his disparagement was bordering on the ridiculous. When seamer-allrounder Soumya Sarkar came on to bowl against the Afghans, Rameez referred to him as “Sumaiya Sarkar” - a mistake which is really unbecoming of a top commentator. Not only that, he is probably the only commentator in the world who calls Shakib al Hasan “Sakibul”. Not known for toning down, Rameez also refers to every Bangladesh cricketer with the name Rahman as “Rehman”.

It is no surprise therefore that the Bangladesh fans are calling for his head as they want him banned from commentating in any match involving the Tigers. Effigies of the former Pakistan captain have already been burned in several parts of Bangladesh. And in Facebook and Twitter, activists are running a campaign - #BanRameezRaja.

The bengali accent does pronounce shakib al as sakibul. Anybody who has heard a bengali speak will know they have a notorious accent.

I had teachers in school who would pronounce:

Treasuer - Traiure
Measure - Maiure
Happens all the time !

not entirely that true, because some are really well know Islam name for example: Shakib AL Hasan, Rahman etc
