Some of you might have seen this old documentary on Pakistan’s incredible mission to obtain the nuclear bomb. Whether you agree with the decision to acquire the bomb or not, one has to appreciate the tenacity and ingenuity shown in this mission.

Thanks for this. Not only European export controls laws were very weak back then but they also lacked interest in implementing more stringent measures. All you needed to do was find an apt contractor and leave the twisting and tweaking of the legal system to them. Their scientists were also scattered all over the work, including in rogue states, working on a various conventional, missile, as well as nuclear programmes. The Argentinian Condor-II ballistic missile is a case at hand, which also had American and European footprints on it. & yet, they singled out Pakistan as the problematic nuclear & missile proliferator. I guess they found a scapegoat for hiding their own law enforcement incompetencies.

So basically, west extremely underestimated Pakistan's capabilities, abilities, and will to make the bomb. And the loopholes in the system helped Pakistan. Pakistan had to make the bomb at any cost because it was the question of our very survival as a country because of India. The Russian invasion of Afghanistan helped us a lot because the US and Europe needed Pakistan to counter Russians in Afghanistan.

The lesson learned is we can do anything if we have will power and the leadership is actually willing and sincere. If we can build a bomb there is no reason for us to not be able to eliminate poverty from our country and make Pakistan an industrially strong country. And these are the things in which the rest of the world would actually like to help us. But guess what? the elites and the political leaders (including PPP, PMLN and PTI except for IK)and to some extent military leadership (in the past) don't want the common man to come out of poverty. It just makes it easier to control and fool people who are poor and less developed.

Why did you say that---. All these top scientists were educated in the west and working in the west at critical positions and designing and operating nuc reactors---.

So how would the west underestimate pakistani talents---they worked shoulder to shoulder---.

Pakistani bomb is due to the acceptance of the west---. Everybody likes an under dog to stand up to the bully ( india )---. Some countries had no love lost for India and they loved what they saw in this little bull terrier of a country pakistan---.

The west was also upset at india for breaking up east pakistan---.

Where did u find this? How old is this? The way they talk about it...it seems Zia was still alive then.
