Problems with Merkava tank

You've probably heard how Merkava is the best tank in the world, how its design is so unique and good that no tank can match it. Well, that is far from the truth, and today we are going to look at some of the problems of Merkava, Merkava Mk4 to be exact, since that is the most modern variant currently in service.

1) What makes emission in thermals is exhaust system not the engine. In this regard Merkava is not different from T-90 which also has exhaust at side.
2) Merkava is deigned to fight the other tanks in hull down position. So there is no point to increase front hull armor against the APFSDS. Much better to save the weight for side, bottom and top protection.
3) L44 is more than enough against all Syrian and Egyptian tanks. Increasing barrel length will only decrease mobility and probability to hit on move.
4) Turret ammo or Merkava DOES have blow up panels. Hull ammo does not, but no other tank beside the Abrams have it. Merkava rounds are stored in fireproof containers in rear. Thus Merkava and Abrams are two best tanks in regards of ammo storage.
5) At 3:00 u can see that round penetrated the lower hull but did not ignite the fuel tanks. Beside their ignition does not endanger the crew at all.

T-90 is far superior to Merkava. Merkava is designed against poor people with no real tanks or even anti tank capabilities, it has an outdated gun, weak armour that can protect against old HEAT projectiles (like RPGs) but has no chance of stopping modern APFSDS, also engine in the front giving it a terrible thermal signature which makes it an easy target for other tanks. In what it was designed for it's a good tank. Against a real tank though like the T-90 it would get destroyed.

Israel fought against conventional armies with thousands tanks and jets (Six Day war, Yom Kippur, Lebanon).
Russia fought only against rag tag militias (Afghanistan, Chechnya, Syria).

Merkava FCS and BMS is far far superior to T-90.

Mekava uses same NERA type armor as T-90. But while T-90 has only front NERA protection, Merkava has sides and top too.

Also Merkava has APS which T-90 lacks.
