LAHORE - Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has said the privatisation of public utility is not required as according to him the department is inching towards betterment with everyday passing.
Im sure the Railways will become a profitable organisation after a year and we dont need to go for further public-private partnership, said the minister while talking to the journalists at Railways Headquarter here on Sunday.
PR General Manager (Operations) Anjum Pervaiz, Railways IGP Ibne Hussain, PR Additional General Manager Javaid Anwar and other senior officers were also present.
The minister said that transparency would be ensured in every deal. The management of the Business Train would have to pay the dues of Railways and they would not be right off even a single penny. He said the issue of the Royal Palm Club was in the Supreme Court which would be requested for its early hearing.
Mentioning several pro-railway steps taken by him, the minister said the PR was on the right track now and it would be able to deliver soon. He said purchase of locomotives was the priority and Chinese company would start providing engines to Railways after two months. To a question, he replied that power van agreement had been revived and an amount of Rs140 million had been saved through an amendment in agreement. He said a contract of Diesel Generating set with a company of the United States had to cancel due to irregularities and a new tender would be sought in this regard.
The minister expressed his will to preserve and renovation of PR national heritage like Lahore railway station, Karachi Cantt Railway station and Railways Golra museum.
He said the PR had prepared the scrap selling policy and would be presented to media after 10 days. By taking the help of consultant companies the railways land should be utilised properly, he asserted.
