PPP honours SC verdicts: Sindh CM

KARACHI - Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Shah on Sunday said that Pakistan People’s Party and Government fully honoured every decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan including holding Local Government elections.
To a question at a press conference here at the CM House, the Chief Minister said that however there were certain problems/ barriers confronting his Government to hold these elections forthwith including non-finalisation of voters lists and de-limitation of the local government constituencies. He explained that his Government would present its opinion/ position before the apex court in this regard.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, PPP MNA Ms Faryal Talpur, Sindh Information Minister Ms Shazia Marri and a group of other PPP leaders were also present in the press conference. The Sindh Chief Minister said that his Government was committed to maintain peace and security in the city.
PPP, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Awami National Party had reached an understanding on carrying out across-the-board operation by law enforcing agencies in the city wherever required for ensuring safety of the life and property of the people.
, he said.
During a meeting here on Saturday to review law and order, he said, he had issued directives to the law enforcing agencies to continue their indiscriminate actions/ targeted operation in any area of the city when they get authentic information about the criminals/ terrorists.
“We are not targeting any particular area or community,” he explained when his attention was drawn to operation in Lyari area of the city.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that PPP was still the most popular national political party of the country and new faces including very influential people were joining it.
He highlighted the achievements of PPP-led Governments at the provincial and federal level.
PPP’s Member National Assembly from Nawabshah Ms Faryal Talpur, responding to a question, assured that the coming federal annual budget would be people-friendly and would bring relief to the masses.
She said that the Government was following the mission of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto to focus on social and eco.
We are also pursuing Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s vision/ policy of reconciliation in the country and it has brought very good results, she said.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah spoke of the efforts and achievements of the Government on political, social and economic fronts. PPP has done a lot for restoration and strengthening of democracy, for the welfare of the people and the development of the country. The fifth National Finance Commission (NFC) award, 18th Amendment to the Constitution and Balochistan Package are among the historic works done by PPP Government, he said adding that the people would soon see significant positive impact of PPP Government’s policies and steps taken in social and economic sectors.
He said that the last dictator’s Government destroyed the foundation of the country. We inherited law and order problem and energy crisis etc., from the past government, he said.
He said that President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have assured that the energy crisis would be overcome soon as the Government was making its best efforts and utilising all available options.
To a question, Khursheed Shah said that it was Lashkari Raisani who, being the President of PPP Balochistan, had recommended that his brother Aslam Raisani should be made the Chief Minister Balochistan.
He said that PPP and the PPP-led Government were pursuing the solutions of problems facing the people of Balochistan.
PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari after becoming the President of the country had apologised to the Balochistan people with an open heart for any injustice/ discrimination done to them in the past and guaranteed them all kind of support from the Federal and the provincial governments. He took historical decisions to provide relief and promote sense of ownership among the people of the province. He released many detained Baloch leaders, announced a socio-economic package for Balochistan, formed a judicial commission to address the complaints/ grievances of people of Balochistan, and on the demand of Baloch leaders the army cantonments were closed in certain areas and the responsibility for maintaining law and order was given to Frontier Constabulary (FC), Federal Minister Khursheed Shah said.
He said that more than 5,000 government jobs were given to people of Balochistan and their share in Federal government jobs has been doubled. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has directed that Grade-19 officers in Balochistan be inducted forthwith in the Federal Government departments.
Their share in NFC has been increased to 9 percent from 5 percent, he said.
