Indian Solider with a &T MP9 (Major Gaurav Arya via Twitter)
Back in 2012 the Indian Army purchased just over 1,500 B&T MP9 submachine gun after serious equipment shortfalls were highlighted by senior army officers. It’s unclear if India have made subsequent MP9 orders. These were issued to the Indian Army’s specialist Ghatak Platoons. Each Indian battalion has an attached Ghatak platoon which is specially trained for special operations duties.

This photograph posted on twitter by Major Gaurav Arya, a retired former Ghatak team leader, shows the platoon leader from the Kumaon Regiment posing with his B&T MP9 after a platoon briefing. The MP9 is fitted with a B&T QD SMG/PDW suppressor but no optic, just standard iron sights.
The rest of the Ghatak team appear to be armed with a mixture of the Indian Army’s INSAS, a SVD (complete with ghillie suited sniper) and Romanian AKs with side folding stocks. The Indian Army is in the process of purchasing over half a million new AK-pattern rifles to replace the INSAS.
