KARACHI:
After dissolving the partys coordination and Karachi organising committees, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain unveiled the names of new party office-bearers on Sunday.
Addressing an MQM workers convention at Jinnah Ground via phone from London, Altaf announced the names of 23 new members of the Rabita (coordination) committee and 10-member Karachi Tanzeemi (organising) committee.
On May 22, the MQM chief dissolved the Karachi Organising Committee, followed by the Coordination Committee a few days later following complaints of inefficiency against the two bodies.
Dr Nusrat, Engineer Nasir Jamal and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui have been nominated as the new deputy conveners of the Coordination Committee in Karachi. Nadeem Nusrat has been appointed the deputy convener of the Coordination Committee in London.
Nadeem Ahsan has replaced appointed the deputy convener of the Coordination Committee in London.
Nadeem Ahsan has replaced Hammad Siddiqui as the head of the Karachi Organising Committee.
Former deputy convenor Dr Farooq Sattar will be heading the partys international and diplomatic affairs committee. Dr Sattar will also serve as MQMs parliamentary leader in the National Assembly.
Altaf said the MQM was conducting inquiries against the members who failed to acquire representation in the newly formed committees. However, they have been given time to rectify their deeds.
Whosoever fulfils the criteria after rectifying their deeds may get their position back in the organisation, Altaf said.
He said some MQM representatives spend millions in private festivities and have adopted a feudal-like lifestyle. I direct the leadership and workers to adopt simplicity and moderation in their affairs.
Upon receiving complaints of MQM members involvement in illicit activities, Altaf told unit and sector in-charges that it was unfitting for them to get involved in matters like the administration of Jumma (Friday) bazaars, Mangal (Tuesday) bazaars, Bachat (savings) bazaars and satellite cable operations. The MQM has no place for people involved in corruption and other social evils, he said.
He urged the partys leaders and activists to adopt a manner of respect while dealing with the masses instead of intimidating them.
Members who have managed to acquire a place on the new Coordination Committee include Amir Khan, Yousuf Shehwani, Nisar Panwahr and Haider Abbas Rizvi, Nasreen Jalil, Dr Saghir Ahmed, Kunwar Naveed Jamil, Adil Khan, Khalid Sultan, Aslam Afridi, Mian Ateeq, Wasay Jalil, Kunwar Naveed Jamil and Mumtaz Anwar.
Members of the London Coordination Committee are Mustafa Azizabadi, Mohammad Anwar, Mohammad Ashfaq, Tariq Javed, Tariq Mir and Qasim Ali Raza.
