Personally, I think it is highly unlikely because
1. Buk is short range SAM used to cover tank columns. There were no Russian tank columns in eastern Ukraine.
2. Russia would have played it safe, using 250 km range long range SAM S-400 to shoot across the border to prevent people finding out.
3. A 1986 missile is extremely rare to find in Russia army in 2014. By then Russia had Buk M2 which entered service in 2008.
4. If they know already who did it, his name, his address, his phone number, why not simply ask him? Seems like a hoax to me.
