MUMBAI: The Mumbai police have appealed to citizens to be alert and look out for two foreign nationals who entered the city in the recent past to cause disruption in crowded places, especially at places of worship.

Joint Commissioner (Crime) Himanshu Roy told journalists here on Friday that the Mumbai police and the Crime Branch had formed several teams to nab Kalimuddin Khan alias Rameshwar Pandit (28) and Hafiz Sharif (25).

“We are going to use CCTVs to monitor religious and other crowded places in the city.”

Mr. Roy said the Crime Branch was in no position to give out any further detail. “We have received information from intelligence agencies that two persons of foreign origin have entered Mumbai for causing disruption. It is important right now to circulate these names and photos widely in the public.”

Asked whether the intention of the two was to strike during religious festivals, Mr. Roy said it is not a “mere coincidence” that they had come just before important religious festivals. Ramzan was celebrated on Friday, and Ganesh Chaturthi falls on Saturday.

The police have appealed to the citizens that if they spot either of the two foreigners, they should report to the nearest police station or call up 100 or the dedicated numbers (022) 22633333, (022) 22625020.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has appealed to the people to be alert and report any suspicious activity. “We received information from the Union Home Ministry about the two terrorists. The people have to remain alert and pass on information if they come across anyone matching the description of the two which has been relayed by the police,” he said.

Define 'disrupting'. I originally thought they be planning a bombing, but the way the article was worded indicates they might strike more then once. Are they going to use remote explosives or something?

Plus, how do the police know these people are dangerous?

Its festival season in India. Any attempt to prevent the celebrations from being peaceful amounts to "disrupting"

How can we know what methods they will use?

Plus, how do the police know these people are dangerous?

Probably from intelligence reports.

I am fortunate to meet some people from NIA and the likes. They are using powerful tools in tracking people and have latest stuff. I am positive they should be able to find them.
Before 2008 there was never a serious effort to prevent terrorist attack, most of the time we were just reacting. Have u ever seen any agency being built or budget allocated to police?

I'm not doubting they are dangerous, but the process in which the Indian police determined they were dangerous. Probably won't be made public, though.

How do you expect matters of intelligence to be made public? You want police to name their sources?:undecided: They can kiss good bye to any such intel the next time in that case.

I just find it odd that the police could obtain their names, age, and recent pictures of the men and even knew what city they are in with what purpose, yet they couldn't catch them.

What I'm thinking is that will any politicians gain anything if they cause tensions during the religious festivals. Or maybe they were intentionally allowed to continue because an attack here would somehow benefit the government. Perhaps it could be used to justify higher taxes for more security, but in reality those extra funds are just gobbled up by the corrupt leaders.

Okay, I'll stop posting conspiracies theories now. :cheesy:
