PM's India trip 'in April'

why should we give teesta, a water sharing agreement is for much longer time.. bd govt can come and go, and in future we might have a govt not so friendly to us...
why give generous water sharing treaty, indus treaty did not help us much did it?

.
Mamata was ready to give Teesta but This is not a good time. Mamata and Modi are in a state of War. If she doesn't listen to Delhi, It is hightime delhi ignored her role and sign it Unilaterally. We haven't helped India to fight North Eastern insurgency just to remain friendly. It is purely give and take relation.

You Do not need to be friendly. Bangladesh can do without being India's friend and did well in nascent stage in 1976. It is entirely give and take situation. If you dont want Chinese presence In BOB You will have to pay.
Bay of Bengal hardly matters to us. Invite the Chinese in and watch this happen to your country:

We shall never pay for security. If Bangladesh takes steps that harm our security, India will reciprocate in ways that harm Bangladesh's security.

And we are an experienced player in these affairs.

Your words doesnt match with recent development. We have seen how Your Manohar Parikor raced to Dhaka after two Chinese junk submarines reached BN. What you are saying is something like Trump or Steve Bannon would say. Fortunately the rest of the world understands the use of Soft power.

And you saw how we ensured change of regime in Sri Lanka after Mahindra Rajapaksa refused our warnings about Chinese nuclear submarines docking and continued it. He personally blamed India for his ouster.

Your relations with China are not our concern or issue...till they impinge of Indian security.

Any deliberate action that hinders Indian security would invite retaliation.

Soft power is best backed by hard power - the ability to physically alter situations when soft power fails to achieve ends. We keep other options. Always.

That is where your problem is. You don't have any choice other than Sheikh Hasina. The Next Options are Begum Zia and Jamat e islam. If Sheikh Hasina demands something, Delhi will obviously want to give it like they gave lands and sea before.

Why Should China give you water ? Because It belongs to you as much as It belongs to China. Though India isnt signatory of any International water sharing treaty, neither Bangladesh, There are more than one International consensus on judicious sharing of water based on equity. It doesnt depend on who is in power. Based on Panchsheela You will allow what Bangladesh deserves. Of course You can choose Hostility in stead of Friendship. That is a different game all together

china has no treaty with us, and we are unlikely to sign any with them in near future... I am for all equitable sharing of resource but not at expense of our people...
has not china already build dams?

Incorrect.
There is a second generation of leaders that India has cultivated in both parties - AL as well as BNP. The plan is for decades ahead. Those who will take over BNP after Zia passes away.

The reason why India honors Sheikh Hasina much more than others is multifold.
1. Sheikh Hasina has a direct, I might add emotional, connect with all the powers that matter in India (both Congress and BJP). She resided in India for a long time as State guest.
Just like Syu Ki. Our President calls Syu Ki his daughter.

She has the ability therefore to get her request honored directly, bypassing all bureaucracy. And most leaders are emotionally invested in her.

2. Sh. Hasina has been not just neutral towards Indian security but proactively positive towards it. She has gone the extra mile each time to ensure India's security.
Indian Govt. of any party that in return by going the extra mile on Bangladesh's requests.

3. India wants a gigantic economic zone connecting East India, North East India, Myanmar, BD and Thailand. The first step towards making such an economic zone is ensuring that all the States concerned have territorial safety from each other - that means all countries must resolve their territorial disputes. Under that ambition, India supported not just resolution of India-BD territorial (land/sea) disputes but also Myanmar-BD ones.
The expected gains here are in hundreds of billions of dollars.

As you can see, the premise behind India-BD cooperation has not been a threat of Bangladesh to harm India's security. That means nothing to us. We can ensure harm of Bangladesh's security ten times more.

It has not even been Bangladesh being neutral/passive on India's security. The premise has been that BD as a neighbour went the extra mile to ensure Indian security. GoI thus has to go the extra mile on Bangladeshi concerns.

That is what I said earlier, It is going in a circle. Hasina did enough for India and expects something in return. Just because she stayed in India, doesnt mean she expects nothing.

I do not disagree with 3 points you mentioned. However,

This one is interesting. Either you are in RAW or you are assuming things, And then I can assume there are ISI and pro Chinese leaders also. Plus In Bangladesh It is dynasty politics , You can't promote someone from some other place. So this statement seems ridiculous. Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby of Awamileague or Tarek Rahman of BNP I do not have any doubt in their quality. Both of them will be more tougher than Sheikh Hasina or Khaleda Zia.

Yes, and she has been honoured way beyond what she expected. The land and sea deals are in of itself massive deals that India would have never even thought of giving to anyone but Sheikh Hasina. That is because the Indian political leaders across the board trust her.

Heck, Pakistan has lost tens of thousands of soldiers and undergone repeated military coups and still has not been able to get 1 square mile of land from India.

Other than that rock solid diplomatic support to Bangladesh in international arena.

And Delhi has no magic wand either. Nor can they ramrod issues. There is a due process to follow which is a Constitutional requirement. If the Chief Minister of Bengal does not agree to the Teesta deal, then GoI cannot sign it. It would be going against the concept of democracy itself.

As sad as things stand, Mamata has chosen to ally herself with Jamaati parties/terrorists from Bangladesh for votebank purposes. She is now actively trying to sabotage Sheikh Hasina. Unless she does something explicitly illegal, there is not much GoI can do here. Digging your own grave is still not illegal unfortunately - Mamata will learn that soon enough.

I am not employed by RAW. Yes, there are ISI and pro-Chinese leaders in both political parties as well. Fortunately for us, we have been able to make sure that pro-ISI leaders have been sidelined or taken care of. The pro-China ones are still present however.

Russia: Hey, Finland.
Finland: -_- yeah?
Russia: I freed you from Sweden, didn't I?
Finland: ^_^ yeah.
Russia: Bend over backwards for me.
Finland: -_- No... No! Nope!!

Funny how somewhere else in the world same dilemma persists.

Since when did Sweden commit "genocide" in Finland that prompted the Russian "liberation"? (You do know that Swedish is an official language in modern Finland for a very important reason?)

The whole conflict was part of a much greater one ongoing during Napoleonic era....and Russia completely took possession and political control of Finland for more than 100 years (Finland finally managed to break away during the Bolshevik upheaval). There was no "freeing" here.

Sweden was actually the one that supported Finland's later conflicts with USSR very strongly (sending volunteer brigades and munitions etc while remaining officially neutral)...thats why Sweden and Finland are brother nations today.

@A.P. Richelieu

Read up on history better, there are few real equivalencies here. You haven't even given yourself 100 years first and you are not under direct occupation of you "liberator" (I mean how was BNP even allowed to come to power at various times in the first place if so?)....and you do bend over backwards when told to do so by Dada, unlike Finland (which cleverly made good negotiations with the USSR to guarantee its sovereignty and peace)....a country with far fewer people than a suburb of Dhaka. Food for thought.

Must compliment You of your knowledge of our history!

bangldesh has nothing to offer us. We will not sign any teesta/fiesta/idc whatever you call it agreement. Learn to make something other than walmart t-shirts and build your own dams. We are about to link all our rivers together so you better build them fast.

.
You people are nothing but snakes. You think you can use BD for vested interest of yours. That's not gonna happen. Weren't you the one saying this few days back:

You want to destroy the advanced cultures of Europe and Middle East by exporting hinduism from your country to these places. There will be no propagation of hinduism in our country, Christianity will be propagated in hindu villages by Christian missionaries but no hindu preachers will be allowed here. We want to be advanced like Europe not backward stone age country like india with a horrible stench-filled repulsive culture. May God save us from your evil designs.
Oh, we are snakes wow, what a statement you just made for my suggestion that India should settle water issue with BD and I didnt suggest anything in return from BD. Its ok, not everyone may be as unreasonable.
On the second post that you quoted you have taken that out of context from some thread.
Anyways you want to have an advance culture, I dont know what you meant, but you seem to suggest that converting to Christianity would automatically make one advanced since Europe has a better culture. Be my guest convert to Christianity to be advanced or suggest ur people to convert to Christianity.
