Karachi sit-in concludes: Opposition leaders warn more protests | Pakistan | DAWN.COM

KARACHI: After assurances by the election commission over conducting voters’ verification process under supervision of the army personnel, the opposition parties have ended their three-day sit-in on its last day in Karachi, DawnNews reported.

The leaders of more than 20 political and religious parties informed media representatives that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has assured the voters’ verification process under army’s supervision. However, they announced to continue the protest movement until they are assured on deployment of army personnel at all poling stations of the metropolis on the day of voting.

A large number of political activists attended the sit-in on its third and last day.

Addressing the crowd, Jamaat-i-Islam (JI) Karachi chapter’s chief Mohammad Hussain Mehanti claimed that during last 25 years no free, fair and transparent elections has held in Karachi due to bogus voter lists and poll rigging.

Apparently criticising the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), he said the city has been held hostage by ‘terrorists,’ adding that decisions of the ECP, contradicting with the SC’s orders, sows the grip and influence of the ‘elements’ who are afraid of free and fair polls in the metropolis.

“We have told Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim that we would not be a part of the upcoming election if the commission fails to follow the verdict of the Supreme Court regarding verification of voter lists in Karachi,” said the JI leader.

Mehanti again demanded free fair and transparent election and “re-verification” of voters’ lists under supervision of army. He also demanded deployment of army personnel at all polling stations on the voting day.

The JI leader informed that the ECP has assured them that from tomorrow army personnel would accompany the vote verification teams.

Hazif Hssain Ahmed of Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (JUP) said that by not following the order of the apex court, the ECP officers were committing contempt of court.

The leaders on the occasion supported the sit-in before the Parliament House as announced by Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and thanked the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for showing its concern in the matter – DawnNews/PPI[/I][/B]

Nothing can be expected from the Govt. & her allies they are somply the enemies of Pakistan.

Now this NAI kuta Malik is one SOB. All the terrorism in Pakistan is carried out by this SOB.

Do people in Pakistan even take these guys seriously anymore?
The only people voting for them will be people they paid and a bunch of old men who think Nawaz is Imam Mehdi.

The rest of Pakistan is smart enough to realize that the only thing these people have to offer is gimmicks.

What a shame for PML(N) looks like they r trying to match MQM when it comes to uturn's.

Should include, govt & its allies & opposition means PTI & PMLn too, cause both also are involved letting all the mess happened, durring past 5 years?
Except fake shoughting?lol
In past 5 years,PMLn used all the crouption of fedrl govt it can to hoodwink & do more of its crouptions?
While PTI tusunami can't find even a gutter to strat with?lol
Jst think about, TuQ 30 odd days, million peoples marching & staging the longest & the crowdest ever dharna, pushing all the houses of cards, down to its kness?lol
With true, voicing of the poor pakistanis true problems?
That's called a vibrant opposition, even without a single seat in parliment!
Today,in the very eyes of pakistani peoples, its not only the govt which stands without any credibility, it even for PMLn & PTI tht, all are lossers, sailing in the same boat?

PTI is jst hving a edge, because of its loud talks of change, also can't be remain popular anymore without sufficiant work on the grounds?
I stil belive, that still pakistani peoples expect better from PTI,thn remaining silent on the, conflicting issues?
Its about time , for PTI to take streets, even for any existing issue,to gather some lost momentum at least & to get a better say in deals ,which are going on secretly between PMLn & PPP?

They know they cant get ppl on streets. I was hoping they would try it :((( they can by media but not ppl this time

They know they cant get ppl on streets. I was hoping they would try it :((( they can by media but not ppl this time

They can since they are recognized to be the favorite in the biggest province of Pakistan called Punjab. PTI, MQM, PPP, and Qadri don't have that quality or recognition therefore they have people out usually on rent. ;)
