PML-N to name Sartaj Aziz as presidential candidate

ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday decided in principle to nominate Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz the presidential candidate.

A lawmaker, on condition of anonymity, said after the 16th Amendment, the Election Commission of Pakistan is bound to announce the schedule of the presidential election by August 9, as the five-year tenure of President Asif Ali Zardari ends on September 9.

The prominent political personality added that the PML-N had decided to elect president from a small province and consultations with the party members and allied parties would be started soon.

Aziz, who has come to the fore as a strong presidential candidate, belongs to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has served as foreign minister and finance minister. His presence in the briefing given to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the ISI’s headquarters the other day carries great significance.

Meanwhile, Syed Ghous Ali Shah has expedited lobbying to become presidential candidate and his name is also being taken in the political circles as the presidential candidate.

Would agree. But politics, like most other things, is male-dominated. But it shouldn't matter as long as the President remains neutral and does not dismiss the Parliament when the General approaches.

PS: To say the least; Aziz looks much better than Zardari.

Sartaj Aziz should have been Finance Minister or Minister for Water and Power. These roles suited him more as he had good understanding about both subjects. President of Pakistan should have been Hamza Shahbaz so their family was completed having the top posts of Pakistan and we could proudly say that we are being ruled by a bunch of family similar to Arab countries

In my opinion next presdident should not be from Punjab and preferably from balochistan. Sartaj Aziz is good person in my opinion but not suitable for president role as he is now too old for such job

Is takla from hindi? I also speak fluent seraiki among other languages, and "takla" is a part of it.... and as far as I can remember, Seraiki is part of Pakistani culture too.... or maybe you'd like to declare that other than the mighty PUNJABI, no other language is indigenous?

Furthermore, what do all those credentials mean by the way? I have seen way too many imbeciles holding much advanced degrees from Penn State, CMU, MIT, Johns Hopkins etc etc.... who have also worked at Fortune 500, yet they don't know jack about life or anything beyond their immediate work focus..

Don't throw the same old line that works in Pakistan... he graduated from "OXFORD"......... yada yada yada.......
