PML-N thrashed in Sargodha by-polls, fails to re-win seat

LAHORE: In what appeared to be an indication of the party’s dwindling popularity in the province, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was inflicted a crushing defeat in Monday’s by-polls in PP-34 Sargodha constituency, one of PML-N’s home battlegrounds.

According to a private TV channel, the PML-N lost its seat to an independent candidate, Ijaz Kahlon.

Quoting unofficial results, the channel reported that Kahlon received 15,967 votes as opposed to his rival, who got 14,717 votes.

The PML-Quaid and the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) backed the independent candidate in the by-polls. After Kahlon was declared the winner, police raided his place and arrested three people on charges of aerial firing.

The court had rendered the seat vacant after PML-N’s MPA Chaudhry Rizwan Gul was declared ineligible after his degree was proved to be fake. Later, the Election Commission had announced by-polls in the constituency, the channel reported.

There were at least 112 polling stations with 350 polling booths, while presiding officers were deputed with additional powers of magistrates, under which they were authorised to arrest those who tried to cast fake votes. The constituency has a total of 151,902 registered voters of whom 81,554 are men and 70,348 women, the channel reported.

i got happy that PML(N) lost but then when i read the independent candidate is getting support from PML(Q) and JI i feel nothing is going to change!!!

he will tie up with either of the 2 parties and get equally corrupted!!!!!

The margin of win is just 1250 votes, one must remember that PML-Q, JUI & i'll also add PPP votes went to independent candidate. So it was most likely 3 against 1. btw i'm not supporting anyone its just my observation.

Well thrashed is a strong word to use for a 1000 vote victory by the independent after 2 major parties pulled their candidate out and asked everyone to vote in favor of the independent just to defeat PML-N.

This is also horse trading and under handed tactics, it is obvious from the result that if an alliance hadn't been made, PML-N would've won.

Is it unfair to make alliance?
If i remember correctly....Sharif and Zardari made alliance on one seat inone of recent by elections, where they defeated Imran Khan with couple of thousand votes.
Even Imran Khan unearthed how election commission was involved in filling ballot box in favor of Sharif, in same contest.
I strongly believe if Sharif would not have cheated the Imran Khan in 2007 elections... It would have been PML-Q making the govt. once again.

In any case 14000 votes is a shame in any case. I hope total votes in any constituency are around 100K.

This pml a , pml b , pml c , pml d is getting rather annoying

Is there no law in Pakistan to prevent ppl from using same party name over and over again ????
