ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has turned down the resignation offered by Pakistan’s spymaster Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha in the wake of Abbottabad debacle and asked him to continue to serve the country with full vigour.

Such an action could be viewed as indictment against Pakistan in the aftermath of the lapse that led to the Abbottabad occurrence. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had also rejected the offer who asked General Pasha to continue to complete the task that had been assigned to him.Well placed sources told The News that Prime Minister Gilani was disturbed by the move of the director general Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and called it a sentimental action. The incumbent DG ISI, who is known as a clean and hardworking soldier, is a contented person. He is not an ambitious officer who is looking after the spying job with the concept of national service. The Abbottabad incident shattered him but he recovered without much delay and instituted domestic probe for assigning responsibility for the disaster.

The general, who survived two attempts on his life, did not opt to publicise the incidents as he came out of both the incidents unharmed as he is never budged by such occurrences as a brave soldier.

General Pasha has a married daughter and no other family liability as such against him. He lost his only 23-year old son in a road accident a few years back. The unfortunate incident occurred on General Pasha’s birthday. This horrible accident made him more fearless and he decided to rededicate himself to the sons of the country.

The sources pointed out that General Pasha is living a very simple life and doesn’t budge before any pressure while performing national duties. He doesn’t bother the hurdles coming in his way while doing national service. He is loved by his troops and colleagues. Prime Minister Gilani who was equally upset about the Abbottabad incident did not take a moment in discarding the desire of General Pasha to quit his job, the sources added.
