PM steps in to save civil servants from NAB prosecutions

ISLAMABAD: After a meeting with chief secretaries and federal secretaries to listen to their concerns vis-a-vis the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to clip the Bureau’s power to arrest any civil servant, serving or retired, in the garb of “misuse of authority” or for any “procedural lapse”, reported The News.

Sources quoted in the report said the prime minister has directed the law ministry to prepare draft ordinance to amend the NAB law so that the bureaucracy could be saved from NAB’s harassment. The prime minister asked the law minister to do the job at the earliest.

In the meeting, the federal secretaries noted that instead of checking corruption to improve governance, the anti-corruption watchdog had become a hindrance against better service delivery and good governance.

Earlier, the bureaucracy had expressed complete no-confidence in the NAB and its working saying, “The practice of arrest and summons on trivial grounds, aimed at humiliating well-respected civil servants, is against the principles of good governance, hence not acceptable,” reported The Express Tribune.

It further said, “Indiscriminate use of authority by the NAB officers by issuing summons and warrants of senior functionaries on issues related to policy formulation is completely intolerable.”

Sources quoted in the report said that the prime minister assured the bureaucracy that they would be saved from NAB action for any of their decisions taken in good faith. The NAB could only arrest the bureaucrats, serving or retired, on the basis of incriminating evidence of corruption.

Do you carry enough IQ to understand what is written up there that you actually highlighted yourself?
Should I laugh at your stupidity or feel sorry for you?

Any sane person will know what is happening and why this is important for our country.
But low IQ retarded zombies...can some one take away Internet from these people because they are too dumb to use it?

Well, well, well. What do we have here now? PM Khan's new and updated Fatwa to make "misuse of authority" Halal?

Well well well what we have here is you being dumb and stupid and showcasing your lack of IQ in all your glory.
There are people who are too stupid and make a mockery of their own. We have you right here. :cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo:

You are able to comprehend English btw, or are you going to use that as your saving excuse despite having highlighted the relevant parts yourself?

Another u-turn? I wonder if PM Khan gets confused with so many u-turns.

I know.. I didn't even read what's written.. something stupid must have been there in those paras..

But seriously, there's a relief season going on. Someone is out of jail on being a woman, someone is out because he is seriously sick (although not in hospital, but still hanging between life and death).

Why others get the burnt? I say release them all.. At least all the women criminals must be out of jails by now.

Another u-turn? I wonder if PM Khan gets confused with so many u-turns.

I think he is giving relief because he runs justice party.. If an ex PM and his daughter can be freed even after getting declared criminals, why NAB should be allowed to pick up other public officers, specially when nothing has been proven? Am I right?

@Pakistan Space Agency what are « misuse of authority » and « procedural lapes » ?

Even in France any civil servant will never be sanctioned for those 2 points. Except in case of corruption.

Mistakes happen also. There are possibilities to make claims in the office where civil servants are working, and even if their actions is not satisfactory for you, you have the possibility to go to court.

But yes if there is corruption then... it’s a case of corruption.

I think NAB should focus on big fish otherwise it will be replaced by a new more robust system and better investigation processes.

Majority of the current problems will be solved with in next 2 to 3 years. Many government institutions which are under performing will either be modified, merged or replaced by new institutions which will perform. New setup will have internal and external audit to check the performance and if there is discrepancies NAB and FBR will be requested to further investigate.
