Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday directed to open the border with Afghanistan to allow crossing over of trucks "to support Afghan brothers and sisters" amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his tweet, the prime minister said: "Despite global pandemic of Covid-19, we remain committed to supporting our Afghan brothers and sisters."

Since with each passing day the media is getting more shitter then ever let me give a clarification. The border is opened for transit of goods not for people. It is very important for a landlocked country.

Yeah, was watching recent Press briefing by Khan and team....Khan said on Luqman's question that it was for goods only....

We should not even allow to leave trucks if we give our food to afghans what we will eat if supply chain break?

.
Sensible decision. Essential supplies should be ensured to any country in lockdown or facing adverse geography after taking protective measures.

Although it is mystifying that he went from it's just a flu to it's a crisis in matter of 3 days.

Pakistan is a fertile land. There is plenty to go around if done in a methodical way. There is no need to create panic of food security although one must ask about the act of sabotage of artificial food shortage within this governments term right in the beginning of COVID19 onslaught on Pakistan.

We should do it but the trucks come with people in them. There needs to be testing, actual testing not just superfluous temperature testing, for every single person that crosses over from Afghanistan with the trucks. They would also need to be kept in isolation for a couple of weeks after crossing. Obviously, this is not going to happen. If we can't do that then might as well leave the border completely open.

Pakistan army personnel in protective gear (a disciplined force) should take the cargo across the border to a drop off point. This way only a few people cross the border and that too, young people that can stay in an isolated border post to avoid spreading it to others, as they can be assigned to the post for the next few months, sort of similar to what happened after Chernobyl.

Are you serious? Do you mean it? If yes, I beg to differ. Most of Pakistan is nothing but desert. That's why Pakistan is so scarce on natural resources. Less natural resources means intelligence agencies have less money to spend on covert wars. That's why Pakistan has been unable to wrest Kashmir for seven decades.
