Nazi Germany always seems to be our go-to villain whenever we depict World War 2, despite the fact that Imperial Japan killed just as many people. Japan also seems to be portrayed as a victim of the war rather than one of the main aggressors. Why is that?

.
Due to the Nukes and also the Americans not punishing Japan.

Same for Italy as they also deny or ignore their crimes they say they were victims by citing it was not Italians but Mussolini himself.

the japs actually killed more innocents than the nazis and committed even more horrendous crime and yet they are not ready to accept it .
the americans had every right to use nuclear bombs on the japs to break their morale and make them realize their emperor was not a god.

No where have i seen that japan is portrayed as a victim.

While WW2 is said to have started in 1939 it actually started in 1937 with Japan invasion of china. The atrocities committed there shocked the world already than.

To be honest 3 nations that were the worst in WW2 was Imperial Japan, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.

The Italians, Americans and the British have all commited their fair share of atrocities but just dont come close to the monstrous ones done by Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan and the Soviet Union.

If we look at what those three did to occupied population , this is entirely true.

It is also true with regard to how they treated PWOs.

Germans treated Western POWs very good but in the East like Russia, Poland, Ukraine and the Balkans they rountinely massacred people. Shiro Ishii might make Joseph Mengele look like a school kid. But the German concentration camps like Auschwitz can still compete with what the Japanese did. Because the Germans themselves did their fair share of diabolical experiments while rountinely murdering people at the camps.

Whatever N.S Germany or Imperial Japan did or were alleged to do, they cannot compete with the big boy, like Imperial Britain or Democratic spreading America. And I am not talking just between 1939-1945. They just tried to get in on the cake....but the big boys were not having it.

Yes it all comes to "History is written by the victors" what Allies did before and after the war cant be ignored too.

So-called Allied Powers were not saints either.

NAZI shaming is a very powerful indoctrination tool to suppress German nationalism. I hope Germans wake up and say ENOUGH.

finaly i found someone seeing it the same... ww2 started in 1937...in 1938 latest as japan fought a war in China and already was at war with Russia... which also end the mythos Russia was not ready for a war... in the east they *** kicked Japan and forced them to a seperated peace... the *** kicking was so hard that Japan not even think about to open a second front against the USSR, the whole war... it also showcased how weak in reality the japanese ground forces were... in a open modern moving battle they were hopeless.
The massacre of Nanking (~200.000 civilist killed some 20.000 female rapped) by the japanese ground forces happend 1.5 year befor the war in Europe even started. Not to take away guilty from my fatherland.. but fact is ww2 started in east asia not europe

i hope Germany does not weak up... no other nation loaded so much guilty in such a short time on its shoulder. We need to remember what our grandparents have done and take the guilty this nation has loaded on its shoulder... We dont have to feel ashamed for it... but we have to remember and keep this part of our history in mind that it never happen again. Germany does not neeed nationalism... the nationalism celebrated by many coutrys around the world is bejoned healthy...

Nationalism is not about committing atrocities but to have an independent national identity, thought process, culture and vision.

Enabling (external) revisionist dogmas to dictate thought process of citizens is problematic, and would prevent your country from rediscovering its potential in all fronts. Post-WW2 Germany is a feeble indoctrinated footnote in the Anglo-Saxon course; it have a seemingly non-existent national identity of its own and blindly embrace revisionist Western LEFTIST thought process and values.

Take a good look at China. They retain an independent national identity, thought process, culture and vision, irrespective of their dealings with the rest of the world. China is a superpower consequently.

u dont need nationalism for national identity, culture and vision... thats only belifed needed by close minded nationalists...

There are very few nations on earth wich such a rich histroy and culture as Germany ...everytime nationalism showed up inour history it left a dark point in the history...
