ISLAMABAD: A trade corridor connecting Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul, planned to become functional this year, will enable Pakistan to export trade goods to Turkey without hindrance, a source in the Ministry of Communications has said on Tuesday.

Pakistan, he said, had extended transit trade facilities to landlocked member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) through its warm water seaports, but the benefits of that facility could not be optimised without an efficient road and rail network. The source said that the National Trade Corridor had been conceived keeping the same in mind. The Ministry of Communications has been given responsibility of its early construction, he revealed.
Establishment of the route will greatly facilitate implementation of the Transit Transport Framework Agreement; an agreement signed a decade ago to facilitate trade and transport among the 10-member ECO, he said.
