PLA Navy shows power by 4-day goodwill visit to Indonesia

August.18 (China Military News cited from chinamil and written by Mo Xiaoliang and Zhong Jijun) — On the morning of August 16, the “Guangzhou” warship of the Chinese PLA Navy arrived at Bitong Port, Menado, Indonesia to kick off a 4-day goodwill visit to Indonesia.
Rear Admiral Su Zhiqian, deputy commander of the Guangzhou Military Area Command (MAC) of the PLA and commander of the South China Sea Fleet (SCSF) of the PLA Navy, will be present at the Independence Day celebration of Indonesia on behalf of Admiral Wu Shengli, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and commander of the PLA Navy.
At 9:00 sharp on the morning of August 16, local time, “Guangzhou” warship came to a berth in Bitong Port. The Indonesian Navy held a grand welcoming ceremony for “Guangzhou” warship. Officials of the Chinese embassy in Indonesia, staff of the Chinese holding agencies and representatives of Chinese nationals and overseas Chinese came to the dock to greet the warship.
After berthing in the dock, the “Guangzhou” ship was open to the public for one whole day so that Chinese nationals and overseas Chinese from all parts of Indonesia as well as local people boarded on the warship for visit. An old overseas Chinese surnamed Zhang in his seventies said with his eyes brimming with tears: “I come back home finally!” Ms. Li Ya who made a special trip there from Jakarta said that “the warship is really marvelous, which brings extreme pride to us overseas Chinese.” The “Guangzhou” warship also held a reception on the deck. Representatives of the Indonesian Navy and diplomats from such countries as Kuwait and Thailand were invited to attend the reception.
