Pictures of Iranian people - a country with many ethnic groups

haha these are my ppls lmao

My grandfather was at least one of them. I know he was fluent in Qashqai and his Persian wasn't the best, but I've never asked my dad if he was a full on nomad at one point in his life (must have been I guess if he was fluent in Qashqai). I've been in their settlements a couple of times (near shiraz) and they weren't as caucasion as these pics portray them lol. I think there was some selective photography going on. Qashqais are just Azeris that came down south from Ardebil 5 centuries ago.

Qashqai are an beautiful people, and they too have a variety of skin color, because they are mixed themselves. Can you speak Qashqai?

Basseri.

The Basseri are a nomadic, pastoral tribe of the Fars region of present-day Iran. They have formerly been part of the so-called Khamseh confederation. The area that the Basseri migrate in are the steep mountains of South, East and North Shiraz. The "tent" is the basic unit of social organization among the Basseri. All tents have a recognized head that deals with the formal officers of the tribe, villagers, and other strangers. The Basseris raise sheep, goats, donkeys, horses, camels, and dogs.

lol hell no

My grandfather was much much older than my grandma when they married (you know how it was in Iran back in the older days). My father and his brothers were all very young when he died. My grandma by then was educated and older and she eventually remarried. The language died with my grandfather, but I don't think he would have bothered teaching it to my father and his siblings b/c if you take a Qashqai out of his "natural habitat" then he's really not a Qashqai anymore. The only thing that's keeping their numbers from completely plumetting is probably the fact that they have more kids than the avg Iranian (but still their numbers are dropping).

I did have a complete set of Qashqai costume complete with one of those funny hats. We lost it when we were moving to Canada. I f'ing loved that hat
