Actually INS Dega also has commercial domestic airport. A recent proposal stating a new IN base for fixed wing at Vizanagaram (ignore spelling pls) was rejected by IN chief. But we do require a more bigger establishment for strategic purposes as Vizag houses way too many projects for IN. Thus, INS Dega needs either more expansion or a secondary base to complement the need of domestic airport issues..

How Ironic is this ?
Indian coast guard overwhelming PN

Indian navy's air asserts quit superior to PAF :D

Hope we will see f35 B and rafale M flying in tri colours . Rafale at sea could pound the hell out of any navy at sea. Let alone stealth F35 which will have free run over naval fleet radars

If am correct we already have 8 P8I ... recently we xlear purchase of next lot ... can any one give me the numbers ? Please done give me a link . Am not st land so every single data cost me he'll lots of money . Tha ks in advance

The secondary IN Airfield is coming up at Bobbili. The old airfield there is being revived.

7 Poseidons are here already, the 8th will arrive shortly. And another lot of 4 have been OKed. So 12 in all. Be sure that even more will come later.

Recently the DAC cleared the order for a further 4 P-8Is as per the follow-on clause in the original contract. Aside from this 12 the IN will be ordering a further 12-18 P-8Is over the coming decade in successive batches in line with their (and Boeing's) assessment that 24-30 P-8Is are required to fulfil the IN's domestic requirements across the IOR. Who knows what future compulsions may factor in to alter this requirement yet further.

Oh yeah we must go forfor 18 in total . We got vast territory and weak subs fleet

This 'Big Brother Albatross' flies far from Indian shores, hence not seen much locally.... :P
cool

but now explain, what exactly are they tasked for and how many do we have operational ? wiki says 8 as of 2010.

Can't say for sure, but I've seen 6 of them in one picture. The IN does not talk too much about them, so their role is kind of shadowy.......
