Correct but remember the Viky was orginally not meant to be a aircraft carrier at all but a "aircraft carrying cruiser" and hence the large island was required to facilitate enhanced command and control functions (USSR doctrine):

True but this can be somewhat offset by taking off with a conventional weapons load but light on fuel and being IFR by a "buddy" tanker (another MiG-29K):
