ISLAMABAD: The performance of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is improving which is evident from reduction in its losses during last six months by Rs 1 billion per month on average.
This was possible due strict financial monitoring and adoption of effective cost saving measures, a senior official of the national flag carrier said here on Tuesday.
He said very soon the airline would embark upon its business plan already approved by the Federal Government.
According to Managing Director PIA, Muhammad Junaid Yunus, the airline had the potential and capability to make a turnaround but it needed addition of fuel efficient planes in the fleet.
He praised the marketing managers of the airline for their sincere efforts in achieving the sales targets and assured the Director Marketing and his team for maximum support by the management.
According to official sources, the national flag carrier will soon acquire twelve Medium range aircraft in its fleet.
The PIA has to increase its network to achieve better sales and advised the marketing department to prepare feasibility on commercial basis for additional destinations while emphasizing on increasing frequencies of its existing profitable routes.
The PIA should look into possibilities of starting flights to the African Continent.
The airline has established an engineering hub at Lahore which can handle Check A of B777 aircraft. It will not only save time but also eliminate problem of dead legs while bringing the aircraft to Karachi.
Similar facility has been planned for Islamabad airport as well.
According to Director Marketing, Khurram Mushtaq, interaction will be increased with passengers and other stakeholders for building up their confidence in the airline.
