PIA, how pathetic...

^^^Emirates is very popular and one of the best airlines in the UK as well.

Can someone enlighted why PIA air route is banned in UK and USA (as it was saidin 2nd post) ???

I dont think PIA is banned in the UK.

Some of their aircrafts are and those are the ones which PIA purchased from Uganda (?), the reconditioned one - the boeing 747 and many of their overly overhauled planes not suitable for European climate.

I think you are right, and here is the answer:

AN airline which has had five separate fires on jets landing at Manchester Airport has been blacklisted.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has been told by Europe's aviation safety chiefs that it can use only seven of its 37 aircraft on flights to European Union member states.

The curb, announced this week by the European Commission, follows a series of inspections of the airline's operations and maintenance in Pakistan.

It means PIA, whose name has now been placed on the list of banned or restricted airlines, can use only its Boeing 777s.

A spokesman for the European Commission said concerns had been raised over `safety management' by the airline.

The EU's Air Safety Committee made the decision after the airline failed to address concerns outlined in an action plan.

Manchester Airport is PIA's biggest base outside Pakistan. The airline's older Boeing 747s have not been seen here for some time. PIA was criticised a year ago after an investigation into five separate fires on jets landing in Manchester.

Inspectors from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch raised concerns over maintenance procedures in Pakistan.

More than 300 passengers had to be evacuated from a PIA plane following the most serious fire on the ground in 2005.

A PIA jet was also grounded at the airport in October after a cat escaped in the cabin. Another jet was grounded last month after one of its wings clipped the tail of another aircraft on a taxiway area.

A spokesman for the Department for Transport confirmed an EU-wide operating restriction had been placed on PIA. He said the decision was made in response to `systematic problems' in PIA's maintenance of its older aircraft.

Britain has already imposed the restriction `on the grounds of protecting our citizens'. An airport spokesman said: "PIA has operated an important network of routes from the airport for many years. We accept the Department for Transport's decision. In the meantime, PIA continues to operate Boeing 777s between Manchester and several international destinations."

Believe it or not , emirates growth was mainly because of india
Emirates has more than 200 flights to india per day
More than 7.5 lakhs ppl travelld to dubai frm india and emirates was second after air india
For source plz chk times of india .
I am ön my mobile otherwise i would have given u the link

A single destination country cannot solely contribute to the growth of another country's national carrier-- ToI a tabloid that sells by creating sensational news which suits or lifts the average indian-- cannot be considered a reliable source -- it is a well known fact-- indians have got the bad habbit to claim the glory and take the credit for every thing--
Now what say next-- Saudi Arabian Airlines main growth was because of indians? -- as i see there are more indians in saudia than UAE--

See post number 20.

There was once a time when PIA was the best airline in Asia, it made a lot of waves in the industry by being innovative and brining many firsts in the industry.

Pierre Cardin designed its uniform and the advertising campaign with it was exceptional but look what it has been reduced to today.

One of the ads from the 60's.

Following an EASA inspection, PIA wasn't able to verify that it had completed the necessary maintenance on the 747 and 6 of the A310 fleet due to shoddy maintenance record keeping.
As a result, the 747 fleet and 6 of the A310s were banned from operating into the EU (2007-2008).

The ban was partly lifted on some of the 747s in 08/09 and following an EASA safety audit, the entire fleet was cleared in 2009. PIA is no longer on the blacklist.

Nonsense. PIA has never purchased aircraft from Uganda. Furthermore, the 747 nor the A310 have any difficulty operating in the EU climate. As long as a plane is well maintained, age is not a factor. You only need to look at the plethora of 747 classic and A300/310 EU charter operators to see it is not a fleet issue.

Please stop sprouting baseless crap.

Here is a list of airlines currently blacklisted:

Whats the problem with PIA, does there staff crew not taking care of passengers properly or the entire Airline is at fault.?

We had this problem with Air India. When they were mistreating passengers and they were at the verge of bankruptcy. Same is now happening with Air France, Lufthansa Airline, Virgin Atlantic. They have lower service standards when it comes to taking care of their passengers. There is reason why Jet Airways has over few years have become the top airline of the subcontinent. PIA and Air India should learn something from Jet Airways, how they manage their passenger and provide world class Liquor and food. Man i get anything i request from Jet Airways crews. If i can pig out on delicious food and have some fine wine and whisky will keep me there loyal customer with preety ladies with a smile on their beautiful faces.

Whenever I watch news about PIA it is about loss :disagree:
