In addition even China was not an entity of single political system in continuation.For example Xinjiang was free of Chinese for centuries till the later empires brought it under control only to loose it again in 1800s till finally in 1930 or so it was brought under control (East Turkestan movement). And the fact is further underscored by the fact that Uighurs came there in 800 Ad or so and before that it was under Mongol control and the muslim component of the country was the result of the Muslim invasions from Persia. So what you are giving out is nothing than inaccuracies and your own perception of history.

Mongols conquered many countries, but it has failed to conquer Vietnam. After Mongols colonized china, established the Yuan Dynasty, three times it sent troops to invade Vietnam, but all three times it was defeated by Vietnamese.
