MANILA, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Former Philippine president Joseph Estrada on Thursday said the Philippines needs China's help to modernize the country, and expressed his hope that Sino- Philippines relations will improve in the near future.

"The Philippines needs China more than China needs the Philippines," said Estrada during an exclusive interview with Chinese media.

He said the Philippines' infrastructure construction lagged behind for so much compared with other Asian countries, especially in the transportation sector as the country's airport was once rated the worst in Asia and its citizens suffer a lot from inconvenience caused by traffic jams.

"It is necessary for the Philippines to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. I hope China will help us," he said.

Estrada, who paid a state visit to China 15 years ago as the president of the Philippines, will attend China's V-Day celebrations on Sept. 3 in Beijing.

He is confident about the future Sino-Philippines relations.

"Our relations will improve," said Estrada, who stressed it is always beneficial to maintain the two countries' long-time friendship.

"I'm going to renew the sister city relationship with Beijing," said Estrada, who is also the current mayor of the city of Manila.

Former president Estrada, as always, is clueless as to why our country he ruled once has become this pitiful in the face of China's invasion. Had the politicos like him, and military officials too, not plundered this country we could have, at least, credible military defense to prevent the encroachment and plunder of our territory by a "friend" called China.

Philippines need to give up claim of useless island to get China help. Less useless island = modernise

A good deal which corrupted Aquino failed to see.
Well out of curiosity I asked my Filipino-Chinese (Chinoy) friends how they feel about the Chinese occupation of the islands.

Surprisingly to me all of them want to take a more aggressive stance against China.

They are putting on a show. Like aquino if soft on China will be used this reason by rival politician to attack his political career(Aquino is half Chinese). Those oversea Chinese Filippino are just afraid of genocide by true bred filippino attacking them, therefore putting up a good show for you all to see. Deep down in their heart they are proud to have the same Chinese heritage as China for able to send man to space or world fastest super computer and so many proud achievement. :D

Like if Philippines considered herself a real friend of ASEAN, she should not be encroaching and claiming fellow ASEAN nation territories.

Do you agree based on what you just wrote?

A Chinoy staying in Philippines will agree with anything you says. That is how they remain RICH while PINOY are busily entasking themselves to fight a battle they can never win e.g. stealing neighbours land e.g. Sabah.

Oh yeah, nothing wrong with this. :coffee:
In Malaysia, i seriously hate people (especially politician) like to ask us how much we love the country as we are minority, it is not crime to be a Chinese (i mean with Chinese heritage). Poor country with naive people will always stay the same.

Rich and powerful (rather than poor) China is good to the world.

I see the Philippines being badly used by Vietnam, the US and Japan.

Vietnam does the talking while China-Vietnam business and even military-to-military relations going at normal pace.

Just give up talking to these Chicoms, because no matter how you explain your position, you will end up talking to a wall.

In fact his argument has been countered pretty well. You might just disagree.

He's gone senile. Even the Chicoms here know it's political corruption that's slowing down our country.
