THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress Working Committee member A K Antony on Friday expressed the doubt that people have lost faith in the kind of secularism espoused by the party.

“When we speak of secularism, one wonders if there is a suspicion among people whether we are inclined towards a particular section or community. If people lose faith then everything will slip out of our hands and Kerala will prove a fertile ground for communal and fascist forces,” he said.

Inaugurating a meet to commemorate the 50th death anniversary of the late C K Govindan Nair, a veteran Congress leader and former KPCC chief, Antony observed that people have not been able to fully accept the Congress stand on secularism.

“In Kerala, where secularism is deep rooted, fascist and communal forces have been able to increase their influence among the people. It has to be viewed seriously. The scenario stems from shortcomings in the secular stand of the Congress,” Antony said.

Antony said that there is a feeling in the society that the Congress is displaying an affinity towards some communities and organisations.

“I’ve been telling my colleagues that we should erase the feeling that the Congress and the government led by it is keen to promote only the cause of select communities and groups,” the Congress leader said.

The party should strive to gain the confidence of all sections of the society, on the foundations of secularism, Antony said underscoring the need to oppose both minority and majority communalism.

“Equal Rights and equal justice is the policy of the Congress. The party should ensure both social and community justice,” Antony said.

Imploring the government and the party to imbibe a new thinking on secular values and their application, Antony said that if secularism is challenged, Kerala would turn out to be a mental asylum. “We should try to keep Kerala as a model state for the entire country,” he said.

He will be sacked.

Mark my words some form of action will be taken against him, announced or unannounced.

Secularism is a farce. It was created to weaken the country's cultural pride of their ancestry regardless of its branch of faith. It was meant for places where organized religion dominated like medieval church.

India's culture, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism etc is already tolerant.

In India, Secularism = destroying dharmic culture.

So it should be abandoned and replaced with nationalism.
